Katara considered herself an expert on her brother's character, she knew his strengths and weaknesses. For example, her brother was clever and good at thinking outside of the box, but sometimes he thought too far outside of the box and jumped to the wildest conclusions. And it was because she understood her brother so well that Katara was worried about him spending time with the inventor. It had been Katara who'd suggested visiting the Northern Air Temple, in an attempt to cheer Aang up but she should have suggested Sokka visit Suki again instead of accompanying them. She should have known how excited her brother would be to spend time with someone who'd shared his way of looking at the world. Katara found she couldn't forget that the mechanist been making weapons for the fire nation and she couldn't quite trust him. Cautiously she opened the door to their work room. Before she could even address her brother the smell hit her. She stood in the doorway and gagged eyes watering as she took in the site. Dismantled gears were strewn all of the floor with a monstrosity made out them in the corner. Flasks and beakers covered the table containing liquids of all colors, one of which must be where the odor was coming from. And somehow oblivious her brother and the mechanist were bent over a piece of parchment oblivious to the smell with a manic gleam in their eyes. Katara hastily shut the door and leaned against it taking in large gasps of fresh air. Sokka was old enough to take care of himself she decided; she wasn't going back in there again.
