[Aug. 16] [THG] Save Up

Title: Save Up
Day/Theme: Aug. 16, 2013 "wicked girls saving ourselves"
Series: Hunger Games trilogy
Character/Pairing: Johanna & Annie, Annie's son (Noah)
Rating: PG

The people of 4, Johanna's latest set of neighbors, seemed to get disabused of any of the notions that they had of victors as special celebrities pretty fast. Maybe it was because there weren't all that many any more. She had gotten the impression that as strong as of 4's victors was on his or her own, their real societal power around here came from their clout as a group. Still, having both her and Annie meant they had more victors here than anywhere but Twelve.

And it wasn't as if it weren't somewhat refreshing to be treated mainly like an ordinary private citizen. But to people who didn't know them personally, Johanna received the distinct impression she was "the bitchy one" and Annie was "the quiet one."

Of course, not everyone thought that. Not about Annie at least. This was Annie's proper place, even if it was a sad one with the memories of Finnick and Mags and her family and all the other victors spread out along the sand like so much jetsam. People understood Annie at least to some surface degree. That she was a little weird, but she was all right. …And, anyway, weren't they all a bit weird?

When people gave her looks and she was on her own, Johanna shrugged it off. The curiosity of the people in 4 was nothing like the worst she'd gotten in 7. In some ways, it was always hardest in your own home. On those instances though, when people gave Johanna the looks when she was with Annie and Noah, Johanna would say this: "Look at them- more people who're jealous of all the good things we've managed to build up for ourselves."

When Noah was big enough to ask what it was his mother and his auntie had built up for themselves, Auntie Jo had two answers for him: love and pirate treasure.
