[Aug. 14] [Suikoden III] Emigrant
Title: Emigrant
Day/Theme: Aug. 14, 2013 "empty hands and pockets"
Series: Suikoden III
Character/Pairing: Sasarai, Dios' kids
Rating: PG
Sasarai stretched out his hands in front of him. No rings, no gloves, no signs of any runes. They were barer than the day he was born.
"What are you looking at?" Catherine asked him.
"Just my hands."
"Dad said to call you 'uncle' now, but it seems too strange," she dug her hands into the pink and white gingham of her skirt.
"Just think of it like being in one of your plays," Darren stepped over the various bags and boxes loaded up the cart to join the bishop and his sister. "You still want to be an actress, don't you?"
"I do," Catherine averred, "It's just...this isn't a script. It's my life, but it's all weird and twisted up now."
"Sometimes," Sasarai offered, "Life can be very much about acting. I'm sure you're done it yourself, Catherine, even if you weren't aware of it. We all wear masks at times and take on roles to fit into our places in society."
"Uncle Sasarai is right," Ayu piped up.
Her half-siblings laughed.
"Now, is Uncle Sasarai going to do all right as a name though?" Darren wondered, a bit concerned.
"It shouldn't present much of a problem, especially considering how I appear younger than my actual age. Your father and I already discussed this."
"There were more Sasarais named after you than before you, huh?" Darren mused.
"If we were attempting to hide our Harmonian heritage, it would be different, but since that's not likely a major concern, I don't suspect it will raise any eyebrows."
"Another land then," Darren sighed, "Another life. ...and just as I was really getting started on my own here."
