[Aug. 3] [Suikoden III] The Canals
Title: The Canals
Day/Theme: Aug. 3, 2013 "river eyes"
Series: Suikoden III
Character/Pairing: Sasarai & Dios
Rating: G
The water in the canals was sort of mesmerizing. It didn't move at the same speed through all segments of the waterways. Sasarai didn't know why, but he'd noticed it all the same. The water moved much faster under the outer bridges than here by the cathedral. It tended to take a boat passing through to disturb it too much.
Still, it wasn't perfectly tranquil. It did move. If he stared for long enough, he could see patterns in it.
"Sir?" Dios interrupted his idle thoughts.
"Um, yes?" he turned away from the water, leaning an arm across the railing.
"They've concluded the meeting without you as you requested. We can leave anytime you like."
The soft sound of the water was almost as pleasant to him as the sight of it. There had been a time when Sasarai had pondered requesting a transfer to Riverway. That was many years ago now, in the small period between his initial ordination and installation as a bishop. Before he had fully realized how locked in his life and future were. Even if he'd asked, they'd have never let him go. He had been meant for Crystal Valley, for a bishop's hat, for a seat on the Counsel, to be the mouthpiece of his father, symbolizing many of the same values and principles but with only the smallest portion of the associated power and majesty.
"…You lived in Riverway for a time, did you not?"
Although he couldn't determine why his bishop was asking, Dios appreciated that he remembered. "Yes, for quite a while."
"It's peaceful here… Instead of just leaving immediately, I'd like to propose we take a boat ride."
What reason was there to object to this suggestion? Dios bowed. "As you wish, sir."
