[Aug. 1] [THG] Dinner; Lunch

Title: Dinner; Lunch
Day/Theme: Aug. 1, 2013 "Romantic dinner, cozy lunch."
Series: Hunger Games trilogy
Character/Pairing: Tyde/Rita, Shad, etc. (various D4 OCs)
Rating: G
Author's comment: Same old OCs. This is set post 29th Games, so way back when. Just casual writing for the fun of it. As it should be, I suppose!

There was practically no pause after his knock. Rita must have been waiting nearly right behind the door. She looked eager. "Hello, Tyde!"

"Hello, Rita," he greeted her with a small nod of his head and an enormous grin. She looked so beautiful, with her wavy black hair pinned up on her head with a marigold (part of him couldn't wait to get it down). She was wearing her best dress, blue and white, the hem busy with embroidery she had done herself. "You look lovely. Are you ready to go?"

"Of course. Just let me say goodbye to my folks." She whirled around back into the house.

Tyde kept on smiling while he waited. He was just so happy. He was just so lucky. Pretty soon he was going to go for it. Mags had encouraged him explicitly and his experiences with Shad had also contributed to his positive feeling toward the matter on way or another- he just needed to think of the right place and time to propose.

"Let's go then," Rita fluttered back out. She reached toward him and Tyde took her hand.

There were only two actual restaurants in the district that were more than casual food stands that opened up for a limited number of hours during the day. They headed to the nicer one. Tyde had never gone there without Rita. He regarded it so thoroughly as "their place" that if he had to keep it alive with tips for the rest of his life he was willing to do so.

The staff took them to the best table. The waitress lit a candle. Looking into Rita's deep brown eyes, Tyde knew how he wanted to spend the rest of his life.

There was a long pause after he knocked, but finally Shad's mother opened the door, wiping her hands on a towel, "Hello, Tyde."

"Hello, Ms. Atwater," he bobbed his head to his victor's mother. She didn't look a whole lot like her son, aside from being skinny, though with Shad's unusual appearance that wasn't much of a surprise. Her hair was a rich brown. Her eyes were a dark green. She had a pleasant outdoorsy tan. "Is Shad busy?"

"No, he's just sitting around. …But I don't think he wants to come out."

"I don't want to trouble you with asking if that's going to cause any difficulties," Tyde considered the situation, "So may I please have permission to shout at your house?"

"It's Shad's house," her lips quirked up into a familiarly bent smile, "But I'll allow it anyway."

"Shaaaad," Tyde cupped his hands around his mouth and yelled up at the house, "I know you're in there!"

Down the way, 'Lito opened a window and peered curiously at the scruffy young victor.

Apparently calling like that had an effect. There was noise inside the house that indicated Shad must have come down, although from his current position, Tyde couldn't see him. Ms. Atwater turned around and spoke with her son. "Go on out and eat with your friend," she said.

There was some muffled mumbling as Shad possibly tried to find a way out of it. "It's good for you," Ms. Atwater insisted.

"Hey, Tyde," the new victor tiptoed into the doorway at last.

"I want to take you to lunch." He suggested the town's other restaurant than the place he had visited the previous night. Shad was a bit reluctant, but at his mentor's insistence, he acquiesced.

He didn't end up regretting the decision either. "We'll have to make this our place, don't you think?" Tyde suddenly suggested. "It could be a regular thing for the two of us to come here and eat together." It would keep up Shad's spirits, he thought. It was good for a person to have something, however small, to look forward to.

"Our place, huh?" Shad rubbed at a watering eye, "Sounds wonderful."

Well, Tyde could afford it. He might as well support them both.
