May 4 [Original] [Plain Sight]
Title: Plain Sight
Day/Theme: I hide in the spotlight, it's a great disguise
Series: original
Character/Pairing: Biker
Rating:
Everyone knew about the Biker, but no one actually knew him. He stood out in the quiet town. He had longer hair and wore blacker shirts than any other man in town. The scars and the wheelchair were unique also. He had never said more than a handful of words to anyone at a time. He kept a low profile, and despite his appearance, caused no trouble. It left him in the center of a lot of speculation.
Everyone knew the Biker had been in an accident. The scars and the wheelchair told that story. They knew he couldn't work, but he kept a room at the old Hill boarding house. They knew he came to town once a week to the doctor. The Rivers boy went with him. Everybody knew about the boy too, but despite his own reputation, he pushed the wheelchair carefully down sidewalks and stood politely in line at the pharmacy to get the Bikers prescriptions. After that, details on the Biker were murky.
No one knew the Bikers name. He had always just been the Biker, even if the motorcycle was locked up in the Hill's barn. They didn't know what kind of doctor he went to, but he sure wasn't looking any better after three years of it. They weren't sure how he had finagled the Rivers boy into being helpful. You would have to be pretty desperate to trust that kid with money or medication.
Birds of a feather, some said. Caretaking wasn't a bad way to earn extra money, more charitable souls offered. Harsher ones muttered about what a boy as much trouble as the Rivers kid might be paid to do.
No one asked directly. The Biker gave away nothing. His growls and glares and scars kept him in sight. The wheelchair and hermit lifestyle kept him above direct suspicion. So, there he stayed, in plain sight without anyone, even the boy, really knowing him at all.
