[Mar. 21] [Suikoden III] The Fate of All Empires

Title: The Fate of All Empires
Day/Theme: March 21, 2013 "the sort of fatality that seems to dog through history the faltering steps of kings"
Series: Suikoden III
Character/Pairing: Sasarai, Franz, Iku
Rating: PG
Author's comment: Some indefinite time post-game. (all I want is the Harmonian revolution! ...that's way too much to ask for, isn't it? XD;)

It wasn't as if they didn't know- the bishops studied their history and the strategists at Soledt too- even the greatest of empires could collapse under their own weight. Even the most august and holy Hikusaak was no guarantee.

The were rumblings in the northwest, but the region had been crushed before. If the discontents in the northwest rose alone, they would fall again.

Words of warning were given to Sasarai on a personal level only.

"It's because we're grateful," Franz allowed reluctantly, "I mean, no one's perfect, but you followed through." He shrugged.

"What he means to say," Iku spoke up from behind the counter of their tiny inn as she tended to their fussy baby, "Is that we've had word from Geddoe and his group. The whole of the west is going to rise. Aila says that there are those in the Grasslands who will back them up. And, we, well, we'll be closing up shop and going across the border..."

"It won't be easy for us anyway," Franz chimed back in, discontent grumbling in his tone (all this now that he's Second Class - should he have held out longer?).

"You should have the chance to flee too."

Sasarai was touched that Franz and- well, Iku cared enough to tell him these things, but also glad that they hadn't had this conversation in front of Dios. It would have troubled him to hear like this. That he would have to hear from Sasarai would trouble him still.

"Geddoe's pretty sure," Franz continued, "That the Rikarianhi? Um, the ha-Katan followers, I mean. Is that what they're called? That they'll rise too. That there's support on the Outlands border and in Higheast. That every Third Class Citizen will receive the call to rise and fight."

"Thank you," he answered, as he should. "Thank you so much for these words. But...but this is my country." He wondered what they had imagined he would do with this knowledge. "...Do you think I would leave it?"
