[Mar. 2] [Crossover: Ace Attorney/Fullmetal Alchemist] Hold Your Fire
Title: Hold Your Fire
Day/Theme: March 2, 2013 "do not shoot the pianist"
Series: Ace Attorney x Fullmetal Alchemist crossover
Character/Pairing: Machi, Kimblee, Bald
Rating: PG-13
Author's comment: ...I have a feeling this is going to be a very self-indulgent March, writing-wise, when I'm already writing stuff like this...
"Now, now," Kimblee stepped out into the light, holding up his hands like one would for the police, which, even under such strained circumstances as these, Machi couldn't help but imagine he had done before. …There was no way that man did not have a record. "That's not very nice," the private detective frowned.
It occurred to Machi that he might feel he had the comfort to indulge in such flights of fantasy because he sincerely trusted Kimblee to make sure that things turned out all right for him, but he was disgusted with the idea immediately after thinking of it and tried to shrug it off.
"Nice?!" scoffed Bald, "You pull a trick like this to get us all out of the place so you can sneak into the Blue Squad's branch headquarters and you're think I'm not being nice?!"
"Well, the fact of the matter is, my friend here had no idea this job had anything to do with your terrorist organization until you went and blabbed about it to him," Kimblee deadpanned. "He's a largely unwilling accomplice. So, please, just let him go and you and I can cut a deal."
Bald shifted his grip on Machi, but never stopped pointing his gun at the blond's head.
"I repeat." The man was just too dense to understand, Kimblee thought, unless he was even more ridiculously upfront about this, "Do not shoot the pianist. You pull that trigger on him and there is nothing on this green earth keeping me from pulling my own gun, shooting you back, and blowing this whole place sky high."
"Okay," Bald agreed, slowly, very slowly, letting go of Machi and pointing his weapon toward the ground. "Take your gun out of your coat or wherever and put it on the ground beside your feet. …Then we'll talk."
Machi watched as Kimblee reached into his coat, slowly, slowly, and took out his gun. He knelt, slowly, slowly, down toward the landing.
And at the last second fired one shot through the slats of the railing into Bald's shoulder.
