[March 2] [Homestuck] Constant Reminder
Title: Constant Reminder
Prompt: Mar 2nd - do not shoot the pianist
Fandom: Homestuck
Character/Pairing: Jane Crocker / DirkJane
Rating: PG-13
“You do realize he's gay, right?”
There it was.
Again.
Jane wasn't sure how many times she had heard someone tell her this. People would constantly remind her of Dirk Strider's sexuality when they would catch her glancing at him. She would often catch herself staring at the blond during class and would succumb to her daydreams.
She'd had this infatuation with him for so long, dreaming of how it would be to be in his arms, to kiss him, to just be his. She didn't fall in love with him until they had a project together and became a little more than acquaintances. They became friends - go to study partners and that warmed her heart. It gave her a little flame of hope that burned brightly inside her daydream-bubble.
But, it was always that prick of reality that popped her little bubble of dreams when a fellow classmate would murmur to her about the obvious.
It was painful to be constantly reminded of the truth. Painful that no matter how much she cared about Dirk, no matter how close she'd get to him, she'd never be what he wants. She'd never be able to be what he needs.
And having that constantly thrown in her face was just another pin in her side.
She found herself giving a steely glare to the recent classmate who decided to remind her yet again. The classmate lifted their hands in defense, brows raising as they backed away – as if saying 'hey, don't blame me – I'm just the messenger!'.
She sighed after they left her alone to her daydreams and heartache.
