Jajuka didn't know what sort of experiments the sorcerers performed on the little girl put in his care years ago, but when he'd seen the wreck she'd become, he knew he had to do whatever he could to restore some measure of sanity to Celena. He'd seen enough of war, and what it did to children in his own home village, had hoped that by joining the army, he could save children, not condemn them.
Even if, in the end, all he could do was remind Celena of her first life as his own slipped away, he had no regrets.
