[06 Jan 2013] [Velveteen Vs.] Velveteen versus Stupid Mind-Control Plots
Title: Velveteen versus Stupid Mind-Control Plots
Day/Theme: 06. You cannot save people, you can only love them.
Series: Velveteen vs. (by Seanan McGuire)
Character/Pairing: Velveteen
Rating: G
Content Note: Set after the most recent story (Velveteen vs. Bacon) and there are so many spoilers...
Vel still had to figure out what to do about Aaron. Well, more like what to do about Action Dude: she wasn't even going to worry about Aaron versus Tad until no one was being brainwashed or kidnapped or sprinted off to an alternate universe or anything else. Given the lifestyle of the average adult superhero, that might be until her retirement, but she already had to deal with Victory Anna and Blacklight (if Yelena was going to stay as Blacklight now that Vel knew who she was; she had to admit that the alternate Yelena was right: Sparkle Bright was a silly name for an adult superhero), so she was going to keep it simple.
But, if Vel was going up against the Super Patriots, that meant fighting the Super Patriots West Coast Division. Which meant confronting Action Dude, current co-leader of the Super Patriots West Coast Division, and former boyfriend of Velveteen. After the hall of mirrors, Vel wanted to believe that he'd come join them -- hell, Yelena had said he was helping her as much as he could, but they couldn't both disappear without drawing even more questions -- but they had left him alone in the clutches of the Marketing Department. And Vel had realized exactly how much she didn't know about how deeply Marketing could get their hooks into you.
Vel just had to believe that the five of them -- Jory, Victory Anna, Blacklight, Tag and her (with whatever support Jackie and Princess could lend) -- would get to him in time. And that his teammates would be more powerful than his conditioning.
