[Dec. 22] [Suikoden III] Turn In Your Robes

Title: Turn In Your Robes
Day/Theme: Dec. 22, 2012 "sold our clothes to the state"
Series: Suikoden III
Character/Pairing: Sasarai, Dios, etc.
Rating: PG
Author's comment: Yet another vague future fic.

"Personal clothes?" several of the rebels' faces seem to be saying, with their taut mouths and wide-eyed stares as Sasarai enters the war room in a plain outfit of white and blue and brown, absent any official goldfish emblems or holy circles or the ticked white-gold and sparrow brown striped edging of a bishop's official robes.

Dios, not quite so unusual seeming in ordinary clothes, folds his arms and shoots them a stern look in reply. It means something like, "How dare you keep looking at him like that? Bishop Sasarai can very well wear whatever he likes and I'd better not be hearing anything from you about it." He is protective of the man he serves and seems to grow more so with every passing year. From a person he was assigned to serve under nearly randomly during the Higheast Revolt, to a man whose darkest secrets he had never even known himself he learned during their interlude in the Grasslands. They trust one another best out of anyone.

In a time of rebellion, particularly coming from a position such as Sasarai's (of privilege in the recently toppled Counsel led government), it is difficult to know who to trust.

"…Looking…ordinary," the young rebel leader remarks.

"I feel ordinary," Sasarai answers with a tiny smile. Dios reads more sadness into it than the bishop is likely willing to admit to. He has folded up his lovely robes and packed them away until a time it is safer to wear them again in public. He is assuming that eventually such a time will come again, but Dios fears it may be long in coming, if ever it's granted him (but if that is what Sasarai wishes, he will pray as well that there will come such a day).
