[Dec. 12] [The Hunger Games] You're Never Going Home
Title: You're Never Going Home
Day/Theme: Dec. 12, 2012 "world is a hundred to one"
Series: The Hunger Games
Character/Pairing: Mags, OC District 4 tributes
Rating: PG
District 4 has two volunteers that year: Indigo and Odysseus. Volunteers means that they're kids that Mags knows to a greater or lesser degree. There are pros and cons to this. They have some training and Mags knows their strengths. It's easier to promote them to the Capitol and to see what they'll need to win.
…"easier" doesn't mean "easy" though.
Tyde takes Indigo and Mags picks Odysseus, though, ultimately, to some degree, they'll all work together as a team.
There are a variety of different stories that Tyde thinks he can pick from to present Indigo. She is pretty and self-possessed.
Mags, on the hand, has no choice in the story she must sell about Odysseus. He has a name that they know in the Capitol (not his last name- it's not the blood of a past victor that catches their eye). His namesake has a story to match.
Odysseus, where is Penelope (there isn't any girl)?
How are you for fighting monsters?
Are you brave enough to descend into the world of the dead?
Odysseus (Odysseus Armain, District 4, M, 18), what are you willing to do to go home?
Mags ponders the name, lovely but strange, this boy bears and wonders what it will do for his odds. Would the Capitol care to play this story straight? Will they help her -play the gods and goddesses with their gifts- send Odysseus home?

When she asks the boy himself, he can only see the possibility of irony. "This doesn't mean I'm giving up though," he promises. He's strong and she believe him. "Some of the most powerful gods were against Odysseus. And it took a really long time, but eventually he made it."
Mags hopes that he's the same.
Someone always has to beat the odds.
He's coming home.
