Senel would leave before the sun rose. It was easier that way. He was getting to be too well-known in town. His time and attention were in demand and even if there wasn't actual business someone would try to get him to devote some attention to, there was always the possibility that he would run into someone like Moses or Norma (well, maybe not Moses; when did he ever get up this early?) who'd be ready with some ridiculous joke to tell him or fool's errand for him to chase.

"You should be sleeping now," he gently chided Shirley as she looked back up at him.

"I'll sleep once you're gone," she said. "I wanted to see you off."

"Just one last kiss then," Senel answered.

"Of course."
