There was trouble.
Ever since Mirdre had taken over Iridian's body that one time to have her wicked way with her long-lost boyfriend Iridian's hold on Mirdre's soul had been cracking. Seemed their time was up and Iridian had very little time to try and save her before her soul completely separated from his own and she was lost to the void.
Jiri, for one, was often quite nasty at Iridian. He accused the mage for tampering with forces he'd had no idea how to control. Of flirting with the Dark side. It was very contradictory because without Iridian, Mirdre's lover never would have met her again. Would never have found out that she had not died, not completely, on that horrible night when Iridian had seen her fall, gunned down, held her and let the magic within him take over and reach... bringing Mirdre back into some semblance of a life.
But Iridian knew the conflict in the other man's eyes. The mage knew, as did Jiri, that what Mirdre and her lover had done while Mirdre had been borrowing her brother's body, had had its own consequences, which were now most likely speeding up Mirdre's separation from Iridian. For Iridian's magic was flowing into another source, something precious and miraculous which needed to be kept alive.
It was that very thing, which might be all that Jiri would have of Mirdre, their child, now sustained by Iridian's magic, but at the same time draining the magic which was holding the baby's mother to the earthly plane. Neither parent would willingly give their child up, but Iridian knew that Jiri was blaming him for his magic not being enough to sustain both. But neither was Jiri cruel enough to demand that the baby would be gotten rid of, just so there would be enough time to try and save Mirdre.
Iridian bore the weight of it all with admirable strenght. Without Cirianne he would not have been able to do it, he was sure. Having her, his lover, by his side, was more than he could hope for. For, secretly, Iridian wasn't that sure either that he could actually be able to bring Mirdre back, and when he might fail, he would need Cirianne there to pick up the pieces.
But Iridian would hold onto hope as long as Mirdre would, for it was all for her. He had been too selfish to let her go, even given the violent nature of her demise, and was no paying the price for interfering with the laws of nature.
