[Nov 15th] [original] Invisible Strength

Title: Invisible Strength
Day/Theme: 15. we are part of you, invisible to anyone else
Series: My original post-apocalyptic-steam-punk'ish-vampire story
Character/Pairing: Edith
Rating: G

Her mother lived on in her. At least that was what Edith believed. She was not entirely sure, for she herself was one of the Fae, even when her mother had believed her human for a long time, while her mother, although initially human, had been a vampire for over half a millennia when they had crossed paths in the ruins of Vienna, the city of her birth, once a great city but ravaged greatly by the Shift.

She was now also the one who carried on her mother's memories, her recollections and observations of a time long past. Before her blood had been awoken, the memories had been clouded. Her mother had never known that she had retained them. She had died all to suddenly and cruelly. More than anything, she carried her mother's task on her young shoulders. Would do so fore the rest of her days.

Memories of her mother and father, who had perished in the fires which had burned Vienna to the ground, had lived on in her. As well as her siblings. She had often wondered and felt guilty over the fact of her survival. Why had she survived, when the rest of her family had perished? She remembered being there, hearing the noise of the gas pipe exploding, heard the screams of people around her, had fallen down, down along the rubble, right into the sewers beneath the streets. She had thought that she had died.

But then there had been her. Her new mother. Holding her close with wonder in her eyes. Looking at her like she was a ghost. She herself had wept, realizing in that instant that something had changed irrevocably. Aamu had taken care of her. Had tried to shield her from the evils of the world. Not realizing, that after she would be gone, others would look upon Edith like she was the most feared and evil thing in existence.

For that, becoming who she had always been, she held the memory of her first sexual experience with another close to her heart. He had been a fae, an otherworldly creature who had approached her during her journey to Paris. She'd lost herself and found herself with him and for that she was forever in his debt. Even he had shrunk from her a little.

She carried them all within her, as a hidden, invisible strength. All those who had made her who she was. And she was not going to let them down, no matter what.
