The music box was a present from her godmother, given at her christening. A mere trinket, but it was the only thing she owned that was not from the Beast. Her father looked happy when it played, and both her sisters and their husbands all smiled, heavy-lidded and content. It was loud enough to waltz to, though she didn't know how to waltz, and swayed along with Jo, who had known her since she was ten.
I'm just the stable boy, he said, but he was flushed with life and she took his hands and led him to her room.
