[Sept. 1] [Suikoden III] Rooted to the Ground

"You have an obligation to your region, of course, as the head bishop of the Central Region, but that doesn't mean you can't get out of the thick of things for a while," Dios suggests, gentle, careful, trying to be helpful, letting it not matter that he's still here in the Temple- in his bishop's personal quarters, no less- at this late hour, at midnight. "You could take a vacation."
"Where would I go?" Sasarai asks. He genuinely sounds like he doesn't know, like nothing occurs to him. At night he doesn't keep up his usual smiling pretext very well. He's vulnerable. It's worrying.
"Ah- well, anywhere you like," Dios stumbles as he tries to keep his verbal and emotional footing. "I believe I've heard that you've previously enjoyed trips to the eastern seashore?"
"Yes." This brings a bit of thoughtful clarity (memory?) back into Sasarai's eyes. "Yes, I have."
"So, there's that. ...Or there's somewhere else. Wherever you have to go, for as long as you need to go. If you need me at your side, I will come, and if you need me to stay behind here, I will stay," Dios vows fervently.
Sasarai takes his hand.
