I can’t believe it
All in one place for me to observe
And judging by the décor
Of all their smiles, curves, dresses, suits,
This is an elegant party.

It’s hard to believe that the youth they lived
Was once like mine:
Unpopular, normal, average,
Like the Joes down by the prairie,
Pumping water through the pipes as a day job;
They found the road to fame,
Found that certain celestial piece.

Where one star goes, millions of worshippers follow,
An entourage of feverish leeches
Making money by the flashes,
Scandals hitting TV like no one saw it coming.

You can’t live your private life when you find this box,
Because you’ll have found weasels and
Other icons with sparkly white grins
Who define what’s in, what’s hip, and what’s dead.
