Title: 10 steps ahead

Disclaimer: I’ve only seen up to episode 30 and am still riding the hopeful phase. I’m sure I’m going to be royally *****d the next 20 episodes.

Ren would like to say nothing surprises him anymore, but that would be a lie. Kido didn’t have to find a way. Kido and the way ran smack into each other most of the time, and somehow, Ren would find himself roped into some crusade to save the world. Case in point: an invitation to join the wait staff of a golf club in order to investigate rumored disappearances around the 19th hole.

“I know, I know!” Kido said as he followed him to their room. “I owe you 30,000 yen---”

“147,000.”

“---but if I get fired, I won’t be able to pay you back right? And it’s not like we’re doing it for free. It’s like a temp job. Hey, hey! Money is money, right?”

Ren sighed, managing to step around the other man’s onslaught. If he said yes, it would give him a few hours peace. If he said no, he’d still get the few hours peace. Maybe. Kido might go off to sulk.

“And you know, you’d actually look good in the uniform.”

Or he might not stop nagging at all. If Kido was resorting to flattery...Huh.

“I mean, you’ll look more like a fancy restaurant waiter guy than I will. I mean—“

Ren paused, sidestepped his roommate, and left the room.

“Hey, Ren!” Kido called, hot on his heels. “Come on! Reiko-san asked for you specifically all right? Just… Hey!”

“There’s no 19th hole,” Ren threw back. “It’s the name of the host club in the grounds.”

“… Y-you don’t say.”

Bastard said yes before asking specifics.

Classic Kido.

“185,000 yen.”

“185,000?!”

“Per hour. Did she really ask for me by name?"

"... Well, more like 'that good-looking friend of yours,' was what she said."

"200,000."

"Two hundr--- Wha- what's with this attitude! Ack, whatever. Just---just don’t be late, Ren.”
