That One Time
The watch went off. Why did I still even have that thing? It’s not like I was in the city anymore. Ever since moving to the university, I barely had time to visit my family, let alone do their hero thing. Besides, I didn’t even have any powers.
Failing the hero’s assessment test was probably one of the most embarrassing things that’d ever happened to me.
The watch was still buzzing.
I remember this one “battle” we did as a family that was a complete disaster. We got to deal with a lackey. Said lackey was apparently battling us to try an up his rank at Hench Academy. Apparently there’s a school for henchmen now. Part of the reason why that encounter was so freaking embarrassing was the henchmen in training kept winning when pitted against Nicholas, my older brother through adoption. Rowdy, my dad, said he was old enough now to try taking the lackeys and such on his own in an effort to bring forth his “true power”.
Big mistake.
The lackey left the town yelling for joy because he had been promoted to “minion” status. Rowdy tried to stop him using the “awesome power of his voice,” but instead of actually doing anything good, the ultra sonic waves ended up breaking a number of windows throughout the town. We then owed various people money. The guys were so busy apologizing that they didn’t even notice the large lizard monster that was rampaging the town. It proceeded to stomp buildings down and set things on fire. Things didn’t get better until the A-listers got there to clean up the mess.
There’s a reason why we can’t ever advance from B rank to A rank. It’s why I chose to go to college instead.
