[Oct 2] [Xenogears] Prelude to a Storm

Title: Prelude to a Storm
Day/Theme: October 2: Fortuna
Series: Xenogears
Character/Pairing: Bart, Margie; some Bart/Margie sorta subtext, but nothing confirmed in the end, really.
Rating: PG
A/N: The fic contains Bart, Margie, a business in fortunetelling, and unusually flavored tea. Okay, that's a lie, except for the Bart and Margie bit. That doesn't happen in this fic, though I might do another piece in the same universe.

The Fatima family, the village universally agreed, was somewhat odd, what with the elder brother that never showed up except on national holidays and the younger pair of cousins living together in a house that was, if the wagging tongues of gossips were to be trusted, almost certainly too small for two people to share comfortably and allow for personal space at the same time.

Margie didn't pay much attention to gossip though, content to squat in the dirt of the garden and ineffectually prod at the roots of weeds with her trowel to dislodge them from where they gather around the bases of the sunflowers. Bart leans on the wicket fence by her, watching her turn her hand at horticulture (not without a fair amount of amusement).

"A storm's coming," the girl tells him brightly, after a moment more of prying at the tenacious scrub.

Bart looks up. The sky's a brilliant blue; bluer than the three eyes they've got between them. There isn't a cloud in sight.

"I know, Margie." And he does, too, though he's never been able to understand how.

She cocks her head to the side, listening to some ethereal wind. "I think Sigurd's coming home soon," Margie says softly, confidently, rising up and dusting her apron free of dirt. "Let's get the tea ready."
