[April 4] [Crossover: Baccano! x Tales of Legendia] I've Got No Time for What's Seen in the Stars
Title: I've Got No Time for What's Seen in the Stars
Day/Theme: April 4, 2012 "divine astronomy is nothing to it"
Series: Crossover - Baccano! x Tales of Legendia
Character/Pairing: Czeslaw & Fenimore (with bonus discussion of Firo/Ennis and Senel/Shirley)
Rating: G
Author's comment: Will the big Rounds 1-9 amnesty at No True Pair bring out lots of weird crossover nonsense from me now? I guess we'll see.
Some men were interested in horoscopes and things like that too, but when Czeslaw kept his eyes on those coming and going from the fortune teller's tent, it seemed that, more often than not, all he saw were girls. They would go inside in pairs, cheerful, but apprehensive, and come out squealing and giggling.
The fortune teller had seen him hanging around for several days (as much fun as it was to ride the ferris wheel and carousel and everything else with his friends with Maiza working and Isaac and Miria gone, he thought it was nice to leave Firo and Ennis a little time to enjoy themselves on their own) and offered to read his palm free of charge, but nothing about the offer enticed him. Actually, thinking about what his future might hold made him nervous. Even if the old woman could give him some real insight into his future, he wasn't sure he wanted to hear it. Everything was alright now (Maiza promised it would be), but he had a hard time trusting that things would stay so calm and pleasant in the long term. Whatever trouble would strike him next, he didn't want to hear about it.
...Of course, why was he worrying? What could he go through that would be any worse than what he had passed through in his life thus far?
He was starting to think about getting up to pick up something to eat- cotton candy, maybe? A candied apple? He always ate the vegetables Ennis cooked for him back at their place; he could afford to indulge a little. Two blond girls walked up to the tent, but after a short discussion and some thorough head-shaking, only the shorter one, with wavy hair, went inside. He watched them for a moment, but was about to leave his post anyway when the waiting girl spoke to him.
"Did you have a reading done? Do you believe in that kind of thing?"
Did he? "I don't know. I'm not interested in it. ...And I guess you're not either?"
It was funny. The golden-haired girl wore a skeptical expression that was awfully similar to one he often wore himself. "Well, I don't think that old lady is going to tell me anything I don't already know or could guess for myself."
"But your friend is different."
"She's kind of naive," the girl shrugged. Czeslaw guessed she was a few years younger than Firo- old enough to go out and do as she liked on her own, but not so old that she was out of her parents' home. "And, of course, she's lovestruck, so I'm sure you can imagine that helps her along in thinking all kinds of silly things."
"She wants a love reading then?" Czeslaw wrinkled his nose. He was already imagining Firo and Ennis going in for such a thing. It was a funny idea. He wondered if he could go in and ask the fortune teller for them (he wasn't sure if they would go for it), but fortunes of that sort usually required information like last names or birthdates and it would be difficult to explain those sorts of things as related to Ennis (he didn't know Firo's birthday either, but at least he had a conventional one).
"Head over heels for her foster brother," the girl nodded solemnly. Czeslaw got the feeling that she approved of this relationship, but just barely. "Oh, sorry for suddenly dumping all these thoughts of mine on you without even introducing myself." She held out her hand, "I'm Fenimore."
"Benjamin," he automatically opted for his favorite alias.
"It's nice to meet you." Whether it was touching him or exchanging names or something else he couldn't pick out, after that exchange, Fenimore opened up a little more and smiled. "You're very grown-up for a boy your age."
"I'm older than I look," he admitted, feeling it was something a half-truth.
"Oh, sorry about that."
"No, no need to apologize. Everyone thinks that way. I don't mind."
When this mishap failed to faze him, Fenimore's smile grew even stronger. "Are you very busy today? When Shirley- that's my friend- comes out, would you like to go enjoy the rest of the amusement park with us?"
Would he? It was an unexpected invitation. They were just ordinary girls, not dangerous immortals. He certainly had the time. "...O-okay."
"Great! It should be fun."
