Title: Goddess of Fortune

Author's note: Takes place in a world not unlike our own
“I think it was chance. Of all the worlds you could have fallen into, why would it be mine?” Diana mused, tracing the tidy Greek letters below the statue of the prim goddess that shared her name.
“Good fortune brought me to your world,” Belle replied stiffly, adjusting the lace on her sleeve indigently.
“You speak of fortune as though she is a goddess,” Diana countered, with a touch of amusement in her voice, gesturing to one of the many half-clothed statues that filled the portico.
“I don’t believe in gods or goddesses.” Her words echoed through the temple like a curse.
“Well, good. I don’t, either. If the world was guided by a divine hand, you would not have dropped in on me.” Belle glanced up sharply, trying not to show the hurt that comment had caused. She started as Diana’s strong arms drew her into a close embrace, and calmed as her lover’s voice whispered in her ear:
“If the world was guided by a divine hand, I would have crossed the ends of the earth to find you, so that I would never take for granted what I now have.”
