Hunter had been back to Ninja Ops not a whole week yet, healed and thankfully back to his training, but things weren't back to normal as they once had been.

Sensei Watanabe did not miss out on the tension rolling through Ninja Ops like a white fog that threatened to envelope him and make him disappear. The first time he had felt it, it had confused him. He was sure the Wind and Thunder rangers were friends by now. After all they had gone through, it wasn't a big leap to imagine that they would've become close friends.

On the third day, Sensei Watanabe revised his initial assessment of the situation. It wasn't that they *all* had started to bicker and fight with each other, it was just mostly confined to his son and Hunter and Blake.

On the one hand, he couldn't interfere in his son's life – having promised when his son got his own Samurai powers that he'd not coddle and protect Cam as though he was still a child – but on the other hand, he had to do something;if only to bring back the camaraderie that had seemed to vanish these several months after Hunter's accident.

Sensei Watanabe technically might not have been considered human anymore, but he still felt all too humanly. And it would not do to have the Thunder rangers angry with his son.

Sensei had overseen Hunter's training with Tori that afternoon. The others were off in other parts of Ninja Ops, sparring with their own partners. Sensei had thought it best to talk to Hunter directly.

“Is there a reason why you are angry with my son?” he asked, maybe not at the best opportune moment as Hunter turned to look at him, getting distracted and leaving himself open so Tori could hit him particularly hard in the ribs.

“What?” he asked, crumbling down onto the floor, holding his ribs. Tori winced and helped him up.

“It seems that since you've been back, there's been some tension between you and Cam.”

Tori's eyes widened and looked back and forth between Sensei and Hunter, in a kind of I-can't-believe-you-just-brought-that-up look. Sensei was confused.

“Well, no offense Sensei, but the tension is because your son is kinda of an asshole.”

Tori might've let out a horrified squeak at Hunter's words – it was horribly girly and she would've denied it had anyone asked but the only two people near her who had heard her were focused on each other. Seriously. What was going on? Were they getting possessed and just saying whatever came into their minds?

It was clear that Sensei Watanabe was as shocked at Hunter's words as Tori was. “Hunter, would you mind explaining why you think that?” It was truly a testament to Sensei Watanabe's character that his voice was calm and understanding.

Hunter's eyes flickered across the room for a moment before he licked his lips. “Because...well, not to sound like I'm whining and a big wimp that gets scared whenever he gets so much as a scratch...but you know, would it have hurt Cam to acknowledge my accident at least a little bit? I'm not asking to be coddled here but he's acting like it never happened. And maybe I'm overreacting, and being overly emotional, but an accident like that one tends to make you scared shitless and, you know, I thought Cam was a friend but obviously he wasn't and I had been deluding myself about everything.”

Tori wanted to move away, but she was literally stuck in the middle between them and she was afraid that if she made any sudden movements they'd notice her and it would've embarrassed all of them. But Hunter's words confused her as well. She had known that Cam couldn't talk about Hunter's accident, she knew a *whole* lot about the situation actually, but Hunter's explanation about “deluding myself about everything” was strange.

Hunter was the loner of the group. He had never let on to be an emotional guy, and it was surreal to hear him speak about his feelings now, like Tori and Sensei were getting a glimpse into Hunter's vulnerable side. Tori didn't doubt that Hunter was hurt and that was what made him act coldly toward Cam but she also knew that maybe he didn't know the whole story either. Just as Hunter never let on to his emotions, Cam didn't either. And maybe the accident had shocked them both in more similar ways than they had realized.

Tori's eyes moved downward toward Sensei. She had no idea what Sensei was thinking. How could he possibly handle this? And what did he know? Did he know what Tori knew? Did he know more than her? She waited anxiously for Sensei's response.

“Hunter, I know you're hurt at Cam's actions – or his lack of actions – toward you and your accident, but you must know that Cam's trouble with dealing with it was in fact not because he didn't care about you, but that maybe he cared a little too much; a little more than he could afford to care considering the circumstances.”

Tori felt a strong urge to gasp dramatically but held it in. “You know!” She almost screamed at her sensei.

“Know what?” Hunter said. “What do you mean by Cam cared more than he could afford to?”

Sensei looked around furtively to see if anyone was looking their way. “I really think you ought to talk to Cam. And I don't mean just to yell at him. I mean, really talk to him.” Sensei left them, hurriedly flipping over to the other side of Ninja Ops.

“Man, he really knows everything that is going on around here, doesn't he?” Tori said. Then after a moment, “Wow, is that a creepy thought.”

“Tori, what do you know?”

“Know? Know what? Oh, I think I see Blake waving me over. Bye!”

Hunter was left standing there flummoxed. Something odd was going on. The obvious thing he should do is to take Sensei's advice and talk to Cam directly. But he wasn't good at talking about his emotions; his earlier spiel to Sensei broke the quota on all the emotional catharsis he could undergo at the moment.

It was obvious Cam didn't care.
