It needs to be today.
Kael had been making arrangements for the past week. Quietly, subtly. He'd spoken to a dozen people, asking for advice. Some had suggested useful things, others had been irritatingly unhelpful, but finally, all was ready.
Kael surveyed the fruits of his labour: a candle-lit table, set with plates that were both simple and elegant, cutlery, wine glasses, and water glasses. A bottle of wine was chilling in a bucket, though there was no ice involved, instead a very precise spell. Dinner was cooked and being kept at the right temperature with another spell. Kael smiled. Now, all that was left was to call the lady of the hour. He conjured a spark of magic and spoke into it. "Jaina? It's Kael. I know that you're busy, but could you come and see me? Thank you."
The spark of magic flew off, seeking out the recipient of the message eagerly. Kael smiled broadly. Now all I have to do is wait.
~ * ~
Kael's stomach growled ferociously, matched only by his headache from maintaining a dozen tiny spells. Preserving such a moment seemed so simple at first, so elegant, but he was finding it, more and more, to be painful. He tested his magic again, checking if there was any word from Jaina.
Where is she? Did something happen? Why won't she talk to me--
Kael felt the wards on the door disengage and his ears twitch. A voice called out to him, and suddenly, all of his tension melted away. "Kael? I'm so sorry I'm late, but I was with an old friend and-- oh."
"Jaina," Kael said with relief. "It's alright, I'm just glad you're safe." He looked her over, the bright sparkle in her eyes, the flush of her cheeks and... "Is that a new cloak?"
"It was a gift," Jaina said. "Not unlike another handsome, wonderful, thoughtful man I know, they remembered what today is."
Kael rose to take her into his arms and embrace her. "Who could forget? Happy birthday, Jaina."
Jaina hugged him back tightly, and tilted her chin up to kiss him. "Thank you. It looks like you're in the process of spoiling me."
"I'm trying to," Kael said, cupping her cheek. "Sit down, I'll get things started."
"You must be so hungry," Jaina said. She discarded her cloak on one of Kael's chairs and then went to sit down. Kael beckoned the food from the kitchen to the table, and began to serve, starting with Jaina.
While the wait had been long, the results were gratifying: the human sorceress was enthusiastic about everything she saw and tasted, and her delight caused Kael's headache to melt away. At times he forgot to eat himself, simply because he was too busy watching her, though Jaina's teasing prompted him to feed himself. It would be embarrassing to disrupt all else that I have planned because of stomach cramps.
Dessert came after dinner. It had been three years since the unbelievably embarrassing incident involving chocolate, and Kael had remained clean all this time. Jaina's support, including refusing to eat chocolate herself, had helped him, and even as Kael's cheeks heated in memory, it warmed him in other ways to know that Jaina was so devoted and kind. They'd experimented with sweets over the years, so Jaina's "birthday cake" was a pair of strawberry shortcakes, iced lightly and topped with an artistic cluster of berries.
Kael floated the tray carrying both cakes out, and the birthday bell in the middle sounded lightly. Jaina grinned with delight. "I'll ring, you count?" Jaina suggested, and Kael nodded. As soon as the tray landed on the table, Jaina took up the mallet and struck the bell lightly. Kael counted off each one of Jaina's seventeen years, and when the air still rank with the last strike, he waited for Jaina to begin eating her shortcake before all but falling on his.
Mmm, oh, delicious sugar… Kael thought happily as he devoured the delicious cake. Jaina stifled a giggle. "What?"
"You have icing on your chin," Jaina said. "Let me help you." She got up from the table and moved around it. She put her hand on Kael's cheek lightly and kissed him softly, sucking lightly on his lower lip before licking the sugar off his chin.
Kael felt an entirely different kind of rush, but he put his hands on her hips and gently pushed her back. "Wait."
"Wait?" Jaina asked. "What do you mean?"
Kael smiled at her. "After dessert comes presents. You want yours, don't you?"
"Yes, of course," Jaina said. Kael's smile grew wider and he moved her back a little more so that he could stand and offer her his hand. Jaina took it and she smiled as Kael led her towards the bedroom. The room looked no different from usual, the bed neatly made. Sitting on the covers was a small, wrapped box. "Thank you, Kael."
"Open it," Kael urged. "I really think you'll like it."
Jaina nodded and unwrapped the box, setting aside the paper before opening the lit. Inside, nestled on a piece of sapphire-blue silk, was a palm-sized stone, carved with a single, curving rune. Jaina picked it up and turned it over. "Is this what I think it is?"
Kael grinned. "It's a hearthstone keyed to a room at the illustrious Purple Parlour, and it's ours for the rest of the day. Happy Birthday."
"Oh, Kael…" Jaina hugged him tightly. "We've wasted a lot of time, let's not waste any more. Are you ready?"
Kael nodded happily, and wrapped his arms around her, resting his head against her shoulder. Jaina activated the hearthstone with one hand, using the other to hold Kael firmly and together, they were swept up in the spell.

He tugged frantically at the chains, and his ears twitched at every sound. The ship's hull creaked and groaned as it rocked. The sea was gentle, for now, but at any moment another storm could hit them, just as a storm had hit his own vessel, half-crippling it, and the pirates had done the rest.
Pirates? How are there pirates so close to the shore? he wondered, and pulled at his chains again. He winced as his arms strained. If I get out of this alive, I'm taking a complaint straight to the Alliance.
"Do you think the Alliance's navy will dare stand up to me?" The voice was low and feminine, and her footsteps were firm and loud on the wooden floor. He looked up, and bit back a gasp. The woman was young, human and blonde, clad in dark blue pants that were so tight that they left little to the imagination, and her shirt was white and loose, though that only served to enhance the slenderness of her waist and the fullness of her breasts. Around her waist she wore a belt made of chain links, the keys to his freedom banging against her thigh, just at the junction of her legs. It made his mouth go dry. "What? Don't you have anything brave to say to that?"
"Give me a moment, I'll come up with something," he muttered. "Who are you?"
"Surely you've heard of the Dread Pirate Jaina Proudmoore," the woman replied, smirking. "Disowned daughter of the Tiran ruling house, plunderer of a thousand ships…"
"You have goblin backing," he replied. "You must."
"I have goblin contacts, but I promise you, Your Highness…" She cupped one of his cheeks in her hands and forced him to meet her gaze. "I do my own work."
He gasped. "How did you--"
"How did I know that you're Kael'thas Sunstrider, heir to the Sunstrider Dynasty, vacationing on a remote island with a bevy of attractive friends?" She leaned in to whisper against his ear, her breath hot against his cool skin. "I read your mail."
Kael licked his lips desperately. "So you know who I am… what will you do with me? When my father finds out--"
A hand ran down his back to his ass, and grabbed it firmly. Kael yelped. "Oh, I'll give you back… eventually. Once my demands are met."
"What demands are those?" Kael asked. "My father will pay, but he won't endanger his people either."
"Oh, I had a long list of treasures I was interested in… but then I got the chance to see you in person and I couldn't help myself. You notice where you are, don't you?"
"In the cargo hold, on your ship, in…" He trailed off, eyes wide.
"In bed. Surely you didn't think we usually keep beds in cargo holds, do you?" She pulled back a little so he could take her in. She unlocked the chain belt from around her waist, and dangled the key between her legs briefly. He strained briefly at the chains, and froze when he saw that the chains had been keeping her pants fastened… and that they were somehow impossibly loose, already folding to hint at the crease of her hips. "What do you think?"
Kael's heart pounded, and he stared for several seconds more before replying. "It would seem as though I had no choice."
Jaina smiled cruelly. "No, you really don't. I don't know if I can trust you to stay once I let you go, and I've heard you're a powerful mage, so I think I'll leave you tied up."
Kael's eyes widened, and he tugged more frantically. "You can't be serious--"
"Oh, I'm always serious," the pirate replied with a grin, and let the chain fall to the ground, taking a step closer to the bed. "Why don't you just sit back and enjoy what comes? It's not as though you have a choice."
"No, I don't…" He shifted on the bed, and despite himself, he felt his groin tighten. The pirate queen was running her hands over herself, up to the fastenings of her shirt. It would seem pirates didn't believe in underclothing as the loose cloth betrayed the naked curve of her breasts, the nipples that were half pushing against the thin cloth. Kael tried to sit forward a little, but was brought up short by the chains.
"What's the matter?" Jaina asked, a little breathlessly. "Curious about buried treasure, Your Highness?"
"That's a terrible joke," Kael murmured. "If I… cooperate better, perhaps I can convince you to loosen my bonds, for good behaviour."
"I'm sorry, it was all I could come up with," Jaina replied back in an undertone, and then more strongly: "Well, you'll have to convince me." She gestured a little, and the chains lengthened. She stepped forward a little more, and pulled her top off. Kael now had the room to reach out to her, to put his hands on her hips.
Kael moved to kneel, and groaned as he felt the material of his loincloth shift. There'd been a brief discussion about pants before starting this, and Jaina had wanted to be a little more aggressive in the later stages, and pants had proven to be frustratingly difficult to remove in a non-conventional manner. They'd discussed possibilities, and arrived here. I feel like I'm slipping out of this, and if that happens before Jaina gets her chance, she'll be disappointed… no, Kael. Stay in character. Jaina was still waiting, and he cupped her ass firmly before bringing his mouth up to kiss and suckle at one of her nipples. Jaina put one hand on his shoulder, and the other on his head, stroking through his hair as she made a low sound.
"That's… not bad…" Jaina murmured. "Though you'll have to do a bit more than that."
Kael made a noise in affirmation, and swirled his tongue around her nipple, sucking more firmly. Jaina gasped softly and stroked at his hair more urgently, but Kael wasn't done yet. His hands moved forward, slipping into the open waist of her pants and tugging down lightly. The feeling of her bare, soft skin made him groan against her, and he pushed her pants all the way down, running his hands down her legs as far as they would go. She shifted a little, stepping out of them. He pulled back a little, looking over her now that she was bare. Her cheeks were flushed, and her eyes half-closed, though the opened as she looked down at him.
"Enjoying what you see?"
"Yes… may a prince serve a queen?" Kael asked, feeling a little breathless. "May I… make a show of loyalty?"
"I believe that you can," she murmured. "Lay down and pay tribute to the pirate queen."
Kael nodded and used the slack of the chains to lay down, staying carefully still. Jaina climbed onto the bed, nudging his knees apart so that she could kneel between them. She leaned forward, aiming for the ties holding his loin cloth on, tugging gently at the string. The knot came undone with ease, and she moved her head to the other side, then dragged the cloth away, revealing Kael's mostly erect length. Jaina smiled, and ran a hand up his thigh. Kael opened his mouth to ask if she was sure, but the break in character was consumed by a moan as she ran her fingers over him, exploring. "I…. Jaina…"
"Tied or untied, Kael?"
"Untied, I want to touch you, please…"
Jaina nodded, and snapped her fingers. The manacles opened, revealing soft padding, concealed from sight but not feeling. Jaina smiled brightly as his hands came up to cup her hips and guide her down. "When we do this next time, we need to stay in character more."
"I can't help it," Kael confessed. "You're so beautiful, Jaina. You take my breath away."
"Don't forget to breathe," she said and straddled him. "Ready?"
"Ready," Kael agreed, nudging against her entrance before thrusting in carefully, holding her hips still. Jaina made a soft noise, and Kael watched her expression for any hesitation, any discomfort. Her forehead wrinkled as it did when she was thinking particularly hard, but she seemed otherwise relaxed. "Jaina?"
It took a long moment for Jaina to respond, but when she did, she moved her hips, driving him in deeper. Kael groaned softly, and his hands tightened a little. She bent to kiss him, gasping at the way the angle changed, and then braced herself against the bed. "I want to do this, Kael. I'm okay, I'm not hurting. You don't have to worry."
"Silly me," Kael murmured. "You always know exactly what you want." They'd done parts of this before, the sensation of skin against skin, the touching, the kissing, the tight feeling of anticipation, but this would be the very first time they'd gone all the way to the end. Kael had promised her it would be special, and surrounded by the creaks and groans of an illusory ship with a very real woman on top of him, he would certainly never forget. Slowly, carefully, Kael thrust upwards, watching the way Jaina's expression changed.
Jaina moved with the rocking motion of the ship, and they began to move, slowly, silently, letting the ocean guide them. Kael's hands moved from her hips to up her sides, stroking and exploring her body. Every once in a while, Jaina would make a soft noise, or Kael would gasp, adding into the sound of groaning planks and dripping water. Between one thrust and the next, Jaina's thighs tightened, squeezing Kael firmly.
"Happy Birthday, Jaina," Kael murmured, and shifted his hips so that he could thrust at a slightly different angle. Jaina gasped loudly, and her fingers tightened against the sheets. "I want…" he thrust again, "…you…" again, "…to… remember…"
"I will, I swear I will, I--" Jaina cried out softly, and her body shifted, arching up. Kael let one hand rest on her hip, the other squeezing her breast firmly. Kael watched her urgently, wanting, hoping… He felt the way she tightened, the way her thighs shook with delight and need, and Kael let himself release, his body shaking along with hers. It wouldn't always be this good. There would be times when one of them wouldn't attain orgasm, or that they pulled hair or accidentally elbowed the other. There would be times when Kael wouldn't be able to touch Jaina -- they'd discussed a handful of scenarios similar to this one, different depending on captor and captive -- or vice versa, but for now… he tugged at her gently, and she leaned down to kiss him, and he returned it with enthusiasm.
Eventually, she sank against his chest, shifting her hips so that he was no longer inside her, instead curling at his side. Kael reached under one of the pillows for a handkerchief. As he moved to wipe himself off, he noticed faint hints of blood mixed with the mix of their juices and frowned. "Jaina? Are you..?"
"It hurt a little, Kael, but not much," Jaina whispered. "I'm fine."
"I worry," Kael replied, kissing her forehead. He finished cleaning himself and discarded the handkerchief for the Purple Parlour's staff. He wrapped an arm around her, cuddling her close. "Jaina?"
"Mm?" she asked, her eyes closing in satisfied exhaustion.
Kael smiled and stroked her hair. "I love you. I've loved you for a long time, and I think I always will."
Jaina's eyes opened, and she propped herself up a little. "Kael… I love you too." She smiled softly. "I'm glad you love me. Just… we might not always be able to be together, but that doesn't mean I won't think of you."
Kael nodded, though the responsibilities of the crown prince of Quel'thalas were hardly weighing on him at the moment. My father will live for years, and Shelemvor and the senate will rule in his stead. There's nothing to fear. "Of course, Jaina. I understand, but let's not talk about that right at this moment."
"Of course not," Jaina replied and kissed him softly. "We have this room for how long?"
"Until late tomorrow morning," Kael promised. "We have time to sleep… and have another go at the prince and the queen."
Jaina smiled. "I can't wait, and I can introduce you to my friend. I promised we'd go out for lunch. There's no reason you can't come along."
"I'd love to," Kael said, grinning. Jaina grinned back and then settled down to sleep. Kael kissed her temple and closed his eyes. I'm sure she's perfectly nice.

There were dozens of small, intimate tea and coffee shops in Dalaran, and both Kael and Jaina had their favourites. Jaina's was a coffee shop, located near one of the parks that had a large fountain. The fountain was adorned with jumping fish, giving the impression of a jaunty ocean scene captured in stone. Kael seated himself facing one of the fountains. He smiled fondly, and wondered if this is why Jaina cared for the ocean so much.
It seems so… playful and fun. I wonder if Jaina's friend is Tiran, I--
"Well, I see you aren't completely abandoning me to my own devices while I'm in town." Kael turned and his eyes immediately narrowed. He knew that voice. It was deeper than he remembered, more resonant but still familiar. The speaker was tall, muscular and blond, his manner arrogant and quite assured.
Jaina smiled and stood to greet him, hugging him briefly. "Of course not, I told you I had plans on my birthday and I did. Let me introduce you to--"
"I already know who this is, Jaina," the man interrupted. "We've met before."
"Really?" Jaina said. "You didn't mention this before."
"It wasn't important before." Ice blue eyes studied him, and his lip curled in distaste. Kael's fists clenched. "I didn't realize you were friends with him."
"Nor I, you," Kael said, his tone tight with dislike. "Arthas."

~ * ~
"Arthas."
