"How would you like to run away together?" Jaina had asked. She had laughed at his expression, and laughed harder at his eagerness. "I'm going on a research trip and I want you to come with me, Kael. Don't say no."
"Of course not," Kael had replied, kissing her softly. "The only thing I love doing more than kissing you is researching with you." The word had tumbled from his lips, but it left him glowing. As he packed, picking up and discarding possibilities based on weather, he smiled. I love her. I do. I can't believe how lucky I've been. Certainly, there were necessary restrictions on their relationship. He had to marry for the good of Quel'thalas, but if his wife was willing to accept a certain openness in their relationship -- and most Quel'dorei women did: so long as children were legitimate, often married couples each had a lover or two of their own, creating an intricate web of personal relationships -- then it was possible that the two of them could maintain a relationship for a long time.
"Kael? What's going on?" Kael turned, and beamed at Kylian in the doorway. "Someone's in a good mood."
"Jaina and I are going on a research trip together," Kael said. "Jaina hasn't explained exactly what we're doing, but I suspect it's on a 'need to know' basis, and I'll need to know a bit later."
"You realize you can't just run off, right?" Kylian asked, stopping Kael cold. "If I don't know where you are, I can't contact you. If I can't contact you, I can't do my job."
