All three of us are gathered here today because we know what we did wrong. This is a monster we created ourselves. There is a new game being played on the streets of our oldest haunt.
The circus lady has felt eyes on her back as she walked the back streets.
The actress has read strange news in the papers miles away from here in her home beside the sea.
The jack of all trades hasn't seen anything. He hasn't heard anything. He just knows. He has that sinking kind of feeling.
We are together now and talking, but what can we do about it? All we can discuss is what we did wrong. Why didn't you take that shot? Why didn't I insist that you took it? Why didn't you check to make sure? Why did you let him go?
When we start talking that way, we are no longer of one mind.
...But perhaps it makes no difference if we face this as we used to, all on our own, each out for her or himself. We will have the blood of the new hunters on our hands or they will have ours on theirs. Two of us have never killed. ...Soon that may change.
