[Dec. 24] [Tales of Legendia] An Evening Swim

Title: An Evening Swim
Day/Theme: Dec. 24, 2011 "her shadow ripples back to shore"
Series: Tales of Legendia
Character/Pairing: Walter, Fenimore, Shirley
Rating: G

"Where is the Merines, Fenimore?!" Walter stormed down the short stretch of sand bracketing the hidden village. He kicked up an angry spray of grit and dust as he approached.

"Out having some fun," Fenimore shrugged, "I don't think you need to get worked up over it. She's just swimming. ...I know that Shirley can be a bit too naive for her own good, but she can swim just as well as the rest of us."

Walter didn't respond.

Fenimore nudged him with her elbow, "You do believe that, don't you?"

He sure frowned a lot. "...Maybe I will once I see her surface."

Fenimore rolled her eyes. She imagined it was taking all of Walter's will power to keep from kicking off his boots, tossing off his cloak, and running out into the waves after Shirley.

And then her wavy-haired head broke the surface and she tossed her hair, sending a shower of salty drops flinging back into the water. The sun was so bright before her, that to Fenimore and Walter, Shirley appeared as little more than a silhouette.

"See? What did I tell you?"

Walter's frown only deepened. "...I'm going out there anyway," he declared, stern and stiff as ever. He took the same steps as Fenimore had expected to strip off the minimum amount of clothing to swim easily and waded out into the surf.

"You know, Walter, it's okay to want to do something because it would be fun," Fenimore sighed. The night's chill was starting to blow in over the water. She wasn't about to run in after them. She turned the other way and headed back toward the village. Someone was going to have to bring them towels.
