[Dec. 12] [Fullmetal Alchemist] More Questions Than Answers
Title: More Questions Than Answers
Day/Theme: Dec. 12, 2011 "some possible answers"
Series: Fullmetal Alchemist
Character/Pairing: Scar, Kimblee
Rating: PG
Author's comment: On a similar theme to some of my pieces earlier this month...(?) Honestly, I am so worn out today. :(
Kimblee had fallen quiet under the spell of the tea and it presented his host with a rare opportunity between the two of them to think without interruption. If he had realized that Kimblee was going to treat the Ishvalan tea with such honor, he would have resorted to it sooner. The entire situation between them was surreal. This wasn't the first time he could have used an opportunity to think. So, now that he had his silence, what was he going to get out of it?
There are a few possible answers for this situation.
1. Not only was Kimblee dead, Scar was also dead. And they found themselves together in an unpleasant afterlife. It didn't seem quite horrible enough to fit any of the descriptions of hell he had heard, although he hated to think that he and Kimblee both deserved some kind of limbo... But even if this were true, was there any way to prove it?
Then again, unless there was some way out, did it even really matter?
2. Kimblee really was alive and here in Ishval with him. He had survived everything else that life had thrown at him- what was one mortal injury more? This was all real and Scar was going to have to handle it carefully and seriously. ...Somehow that seemed to be the least plausible theory of all (although Kimblee's escape from the jaws of death he was willing to buy, this relaxed, practically friendly behavior he was not).
But maybe this theory could be tested?
3. This was all in his head. He was dreaming or hallucinating or had fallen off the roof of his new home and hit his head and ended up in a coma. Maybe during the war, the Amestrians had left behind some chemical and things had since seeped into the water. No matter how many times he was reborn, there were memories he couldn't leave behind. The stress was warping his mind. ...Maybe he just felt a little regretful (guilty?) that he hadn't gotten to do Kimblee in himself.
"You weren't exaggerating. I've never had such excellent tea," Kimblee spoke at last over his emptied cup. He glanced at Scar's rough face only momentarily before returning his gaze to the dregs of water and tea leaf fragments floating about in the bottom.
"I'm glad you enjoyed it, but... What are you doing?"
"Isn't it possible for me to read my future in a cup of tea?"
