[Dec. 4] [Tales of Destiny 2] If Tonight is All That's Left
Title: If Tonight is All That's Left
Day/Theme: Dec. 4, 2011 "for fear tonight is all"
Series: Tales of Destiny 2
Character/Pairing: Kyle/Reala, Loni/Nanaly, Harold, Judas
Rating: G
"So, it's agreed then? We'll all meet up in the dining room of the inn tomorrow morning for one last meal together before we head into the God's Egg?"
"Why wouldn't we all eat dinner together tonight too?" Kyle wondered, "Don't we want to make sure we get as much time as a group before...well, before whatever exactly happens when we set things right?"
At this point, Loni would usually be the one to set his friend straight about how they'd spent nearly every waking hour of their journey together as a group and that some of them (including a certain really cute (and brave and powerful) girl at his side who happened to have progressed all the way from finding him hopelessly naive to falling head over heels for him), but he was already distracted by a strong, sexy girl of his own.
That left poking a little sense into Kyle to Judas or Harold. "Well, some of us might like some time to think things over and prepare on our own," Judas suggested. It was how he desired to spend the evening, after all. "...And others of us might want to spend time with someone we're particularly close to." He hated to be overly sentimental, but this was his nephew he was advising- even if Kyle didn't realize it. "...I can tell you from my own experience, if you don't try and enjoy every minute you have with the people you love most, you'll regret it."
Kyle could be a bit dense, but it didn't take any extra time for this idea to sink in. "Judas..." he said, but he was already looking at Reala. He wondered if the next time he saw his mom he would remember to ask her if she had any fun memories of traveling with Leon Magnus. Judas might be unwilling to address the topic outright, but his actions spoke louder than any silence. The other four heroes had meant a lot to him. Philia had known so. The others probably did too.
"Anyway, have fun, you two!" Harold winked, grabbing Judas by the arm and dragging him off in the direction of the variety of shops lining the waterside. She had a shopping list as long as she was tall draped over her arm (Judas blanched a little as he realized what it was). Even though Kyle seemed to have gotten the message, it was best to get moving and let his focus settle squarely on Reala.
Nanaly and Loni were already occupied over at a bright bed of embers set up by one local merchant. Making their own fish and vegetable kebabs was something they could both agree was fun without either of them having the put in the other into a headlock over it (although if Loni kept trying to seduce her by eating vegetable slices "seductively" Nanaly was going to have to introduce him to the Cherik tides).
"Let's go somewhere by ourselves," Reala suggested.
"Yeah," Kyle agreed. He reached out sort of casually to see what would happen. His fingers brushed against Reala's. She didn't draw back so he clasped her hand. It was really small. Uh, what was the word he was thinking of? Delicate. Suddenly it wasn't so easy to think. ...Was Reala's heart beating as fast as his? ...Well, he knew there was no way she had been suddenly struck as stupid he had been. Reala was always clear thinking.
They began to walk along Cherik's raised streets without any particular destination. The sound of the waves sloshing beneath them and the chatter of other passersby felt distant to Kyle, like he and Reala were wrapped up in their own little cocoon of time.
"I, uh," he felt the awkward need to apologize after the silence stretched on too long, "I'm not saying anything not to make you feel weird or anything. I... I guess I just don't have anything to say right now. ...Is it strange for me to act shy?"
"Hee hee," Reala giggled, "Kyle, you're so funny! There's nothing wrong with being quiet. I'm just happy to be here with you- to share this moment as long as it lasts."
She squeezed his hand and Kyle tried ineffectively not to blush. "S-so, is there something you'd like to do together tonight? Making sure we don't waste our opportunity, you know?"
"Let's go to the inn and book our room so we can watch the sunset from one of the balconies."
"Okay." Kyle was glad she had this figured out, because he had a feeling he wouldn't have been able to come up with a single coherent idea as long as Reala kept holding his hand.
Reala's wish was easily fulfilled. Kyle could see why she would want to look at the sunset from this perch. The rooms on this particular side of the inn's second floor had the best view of the sunbeams as they took their last spin around the dance floor of the waves. The orange light shining on Reala's hair made her even more beautiful.
Kyle hadn't managed to say much more until now. He might have forked out the gil, but Reala had even been the one to book the room. At least he'd kept on smiling. It was his duty as Reala's hero to be brave for her (even when a touch of fear lingered around his thoughts). "So, is there anything else you'd like?" he spoke up and his nervous voice cracked on the first word. "Heh heh, that was kind of embarrassing."
"It's okay."
"Uh, what I wanted to say was, there's one thing I've been thinking I'd like to do with you myself. If, uh, you'd like to. I'd hate to think that just because I hadn't asked I'd missed my chance."
"And what is that?" Reala asked. The way she was looking up into his eyes, Kyle thought she already knew.
"Can I kiss you?"
"Oh, Kyle," she breathed, "That's what I want too."
