[August 29] [Suikoden III] Relics of a Past Age
Title: Relics of a Past Age
Day/Theme: Aug. 29, 2011 "in the discorruption of flesh"
Series: Suikoden III
Character/Pairing: Sasarai, Dios, Stephen
Rating: PG
There was quite a bit of fuss surrounding the Temple that morning, but it wasn't as if innumerable reasons for such a bustle might exist. The Temple housed the heart and soul of the nation. It was a meeting point for everyone of any importance and the place where matters great and small were discussed, debated, and managed vis-a-vis the law.
It wasn't until Dios reached Sasarai's side that he was able to uncover the reason behind all this fuss. While his bishop was not at the center of the matter, the item causing it had been handed over into his custody. He was not in his office as he should be at such an hour, handling his mail and preparing for his early appointments, but sitting primly at the front of the cathedral hall in a carved wooden chair (his official Counsel seat?) looking over at an extremely elaborate box. Whatever was contained within it made to hold some great significance.
The pair of guards standing at the front of the hall stepped aside, allowing him to pass. Dios was a familiar face by now. There was no need need to challenge his right to be here. "Good morning, there!" Sasarai called out to him as he approached.
Drawing nearer, the lines on Sasarai's face stood out and the dreary darkness beneath his eyes jumped out at him. He hadn't been sleeping well since his last visit with Father Stephen in Riverway. The news had been rather bleak. After a breath period of fretting, however, he had seemed to calm himself and settle back into his regular schedule. Dios couldn't blame him for his distress. Stephen had tuberculosis and it was killing him. Personally, Dios found the whole matter unsettling. He tried to keep it from his mind, but nightmarish thoughts still crept up on him some evenings. He had not seen Stephen himself, so he could not speak for how poor his condition might appear, but what he imagined was disheartening. Worse still were his fears for Sasarai. His bishop loved that man. They laughed together, ate together, cried together. Sasarai suffered his own bouts of questionable health from time to time already and signs of tuberculosis were often initially unclear... "Don't think about it, Dios," he scolded himself.
"Did you hear any of the talk?" Sasarai hopped up (though not without a slight, worrisome, stagger to the right), waving to his aide to hurry his pace.
"About whatever is being made such a fuss over here? No, I haven't."
"Oh, you've missed out then. Well, I'll take care of that. It was dug up on Viela It's a relic!"
He had visited the northeastern town briefly because of the extensive, secret aid Sasarai had brought to the place in its time of need. He hadn't gotten much out of his visit though- certainly not enough to understand anything from it about possible saints' relics housed there. "...Whose?"
"Saint Faldor," Sasarai smiled. "It's been officially confirmed."
"Interesting."
