[August 27] [Fullmetal Alchemist] Gazing into Smoke
Title: Gazing into Smoke
Day/Theme: Aug. 27, 2011 "full dark, no stars"
Series: Fullmetal Alchemist
Character/Pairing: Roy & Kimblee
Rating: PG
There was too much smoke in the sky to see the stars. Apparently, between his flames and Kimblee's explosions, he was going to have to learn to live without the familiarity of their presence. He watched as Kimblee looked up into the night anyway. What was there to see? He considered asking, but shook off the urge like a coating of cold morning dew. There was nothing good out here. If it were something he needed to see, someone would point it out to him. If it was only of interest to Kimblee, it was better to ignore it.
Of course, if there was one thing that displeased Kimblee (and Roy was already aware that, actually, there were many) it was being ignored. It wasn't exactly that he needed to constantly be the center of attention, but he always expected to be acknowledged by anyone spending time with him and Roy had gone an awfully long time now without saying anything... "Isn't it beautiful, Mustang?"
The Flame Alchemist kept himself from heaving a (in his opinion) well-deserved sigh. "Nothing's really jumping out at me, Kimblee. What is it?"
"Look at the sky." He gave one of his characteristically effusive waves to the roiling spread of black and gray above them.
Roy's idle appraisal of the action was that it looked somehow like Kimblee was conducting the movements of the clouds, as if they were his private orchestra. ...that meant Kimblee's weirdness was probably rubbing off on him from all the time they'd been stuck together. "It's...interesting, I suppose."
"Ah, and think- we made that together! Artistic collaboration at its finest."
"Is it still art if I don't feel like I'm creating art?" Roy ventured, a rueful touch entering his tone.
"It's in the eye of the beholder, really." Kimblee looked down at him. Was that disappointing coloring his heavy-lidded eyes? "...Perhaps you'd prefer doing something else together? I'm always open to collaboration, if you're the one who's asking."
He barely took a moment to consider it- just long enough to keep from looking entirely impolite. "I think I'll pass."
