[August 17] [Apollo Justice] Alternate Policies
Title: Alternate Policies
Day/Theme: Aug. 17, 2011 "in front of me, a stranger talks."
Series: Apollo Justice
Character/Pairing: Machi & Daryan
Rating: PG
Author's comment: I got back to some of my stuff about Machi from my June posts here and am in the process of writing a fic about Machi visiting Daryan in prison, so, uh, on that theme...
"You know...I'm not glad I'm in here, obviously," Daryan grumbled, "But I feel sort of good that you're not locked up, or dead, or whatever would've happened to you if you'd taken the rap."
"What? Is this the same Daryan I am speaking to?" Machi laughed. "I could guess at this point we are at that this is so."
"What?!" Daryan leaned forward so that the highest point of his forehead was pressed against the glass, "It's that obvious?! Are you sure? How do you know I'm not just blatantly lying to you?"
"Would this really be sort of thing to lie about? Is there benefit I do not see to lying to me about nice thing and then turning all around over it?" There was one exceptionally pleasant part about the walls that divided them these days. If Daryan said something he didn't like, he could simply hang up the phone and walk away and, if he so desired, never come back. It had taken a while to really believe that the power now resided in his hands, but he knew now it was true.
"I dunno," Daryan sounded awfully angry about it, "I can't think of any. ...Just, maybe that it'll convince you to keep coming back. ...If you don't... Well, I'm pretty alone."
Even if he hated to say so, admitting it was a big step for the former rock star. If Machi was too cruel in return, all they would end up with was an argument. It was time to step down, however slightly. Daryan had done his part. Machi would have to tamp down his pride and soften his hard heart. "...I know you are lonely," he relented, "It would probably has been too much for me."
"Y-yeah, better a tough guy, right?"
"...I will continue visit, Daryan. You do not need worrying about it."
