[August 10] [Fallout 3] Lost Sun

Title: Lost Sun
Day/Theme: August 10/I put my mouth on yours
Series: Fallout 3
Pairing: Female Lone Wanderer/Amata
Rating: K+
Word Count: 781
Notes: I'm afraid I'm not aware of the all the conventions in writing fanfic for Fallout 3. My character is Black and female and named Octavia. (I named her after Octavia Butler.) I'm still near the beginning of the game but I couldn't resist writing this pairing. I'd like to thank dasaod for giving me ideas for this story, though any mistakes are entirely my own.

Octavia sat in the empty corridor with her old copy of Grognak the Barbarian. She was way too old for comic books, really, old enough for the G.O.A.T. test now though the next one wasn't scheduled yet.

She turned the pages carefully, then looked up as she heard footsteps. It was Amata, of course, the one who had told her about this particular deserted spot in the Vault. Amata said not even her father's guards knew about this place, though Octavia was pretty sure they really did.

"Hey," said Amata, sitting down next to her. "I didn't think you even came here anymore. And I definitely didn't think you still read Grognak."

Octavia smiled. "Yeah, I still look at your present now and then. It's pretty funny, though I'm not sure it's meant to be."

"I know what you mean. I took it so seriously at the time, too." She held up the comic book and said dramatically. "In the Lair of the Virgin-Eater!" And if I remember it right, the plot is just what you'd expect, from a title like that."

"Yeah," said Octavia with a laugh. "They take a blonde white woman with a big chest, in her underwear, and they drag her and chain her up where the monster can devour her. And Grognak destroys the beast at the last minute, and scoops the woman up while the beast bleeds gross green blood all over the place."

"And then they hole up in a cave overnight doing who knows what," said Amata.

"I think I know what," said Octavia, bumping Amata with her shoulder.

Amata blushed a little, and they both laughed. "I guess I liked it because of the very end, where they're riding off on his horse, and the sun is rising," she said. "I mean we've never seen the sun, so I wanted you to have a picture of it."

Octavia squeezed her arm. "I wonder what it's like out there. Walking around with no metal around you."

"I don't know. I wouldn't even feel safe. There must be a ton of radroaches, too, and who knows what else."

"Hey, I'm pretty good with my BB gun!" said Octavia proudly. "I can take out any radroach."

"But there stuff out there worse than that," insisted Amata. "That's why we can't leave."

Octavia nodded. "Yeah, I know. I know a BB gun can't take care of everything. But I can't help wondering what the sun is like sometimes."

"I guess it's like a big light on the ceiling, but the ceiling is blue," said Amata. "That's what it looks like in the old comic books, at least."

"Sure, but... I don't know. It must be something better than that. Something spectacular."

"Well, we'll never know," said Amata sadly.

Octavia put an arm around her. "Cheer up. It's not that bad. There's plenty for us to do here in the Vault. We have to take the G.O.A.T., and get dates and all of that."

"You still haven't had a date?" asked Amata.

"Would I get a date and not tell you? Why, did you have a date?"

"No!" said Amata, beginning to blush again. "I've never had a date, or a kiss, or anything. I'm not sure anyone even wants to ask out the Overseer's daughter."

Octavia didn't move. "I never even had a kiss either," she said. "But you know, we could." Her heart began to pound slightly and she could feel the blood rushing through her ears.

"What do you mean?" Amata asked, looking into Octavia's eyes.

"Just that. We could... kiss."

"The two of us?" said Amata. She sounded shocked, but she still wasn't moving away.

Octavia put a hand under her chin. "Why not?"

Amata didn't say anything, but she nodded almost imperceptibly and lifted her face toward Octavia. Their lips met. Octavia felt a spark of excitment at the contact, though she wasn't exactly certain what she was supposed to do next. She decided to open her mouth slightly, and Amata did the same. Then Octavia put both arms around Amata and pulled her even closer.

Finally Amata broke the kiss and backed away slightly. "Thank you," she said, in a shy voice.

"You don't have to thank me," said Octavia, smiling. "That was fun."

"Does this mean? I mean, are we... are you--"

"It doesn't have to mean anything you don't want it to mean, Amata. Just remember, that's all."

"Remember?"

Octavia grinned, and got up to leave. "Remember who gave you your first kiss!"

Amata grinned back, and Octavia left the corridor, shaking slightly and terribly pleased that her first kiss had been with exactly the person she wanted.
