[August 6] [Hebrew Bible] Stone
Title: Stone
Day/Theme: August 6/sleeping the sleep of stones

Note: An attempt at poetry.
A stone from twelve
These small miracles
disturbed him
Whatever their meaning.
He knew, and could not run
Though many moments
he thought to struggle
with the Voice that called.
But father and the father before him
had bowed their heads
to the yoke
and pulled
and so would he.
When he looked to the sky
he saw angels moving
upward and then back down
As if What they approached
was irresistible
and yet unbearable
in Its glory.
And he wished for a moment
he were with them
lighter than air
and knoing What cannot be known
And not even needing
the stones of this world.
Note: The first stanza is a reference to a Jewish story that Jacob put twelve stones under his head when he slept and they combined into one stone, symbolizing the unification of the twelve tribes.
