[August 5] [Pokémon] Soft Words

Title: Soft Words
Day/Theme: August 5/emptiness, boredom, an indifferent sky
Series: Pokémon Black/White (gameverse)
Pairing: Hilda/Bianca (Shiroshipping)
Rating: K
Word Count: 439
Notes: This is very, very fluffy.

The sky over Driftveil was a brilliant blue. Deerling, beautiful in their summer colors, chased each other through the trees, but neither of the girls lying on the grass nearby moved to interfere with them.

Hilda yawned slightly, politely covering her mouth. "It's funny, you know. I'm still Champion, and I'm proud of what I've managed to do, but in the end it's just a little boring."

Bianca looked over at her. "I hope you're not bored here with me," she said shyly.

Hilda took her hand and squeezed it. "Not a bit. I hardly have time to see you, though. Between the challengers I have to fight, and all the Gym Leaders and the Elite Four wanting to make sure I'm still able to beat them too, I'm busy. But all those battles get pretty boring, especially since, well, I end up winning."

Hilda stopped talking for a moment and looked guilty. "I'm not trying to brag. Just, if I lost, I wouldn't be Champion anymore."

"No, I understand," replied Bianca. "That's just how it is. I'm surprised you even want to see me, since you're so important now." There was no bitterness in her voice when she spoke.

Hilda shook her head. "Just because you've been concentrating on Pokémon research instead of battling doesn't mean you're any less important than I am. It just means people pay more attention to me, and sometimes I'd just as soon skip that."

She looked over at Bianca saw the gentle profile of her face and the way her wavy blonde hair was spread over the grass. "Anyway, you've always been important to me," Hilda said.

Bianca sat up. "I'm glad you feel that way. And I'm glad we're friends."

Hilda sat up too, and took Bianca's hand again, her heart pounding slightly. "Well, we are friends and I'm glad too, but that's not what I mean. Or not all I mean. When I was traveling for so long and didn't see you very often, I kept thinking of you and hoping you were... waiting for me."

"Waiting for you? You mean, like as a girlfriend?"

For a heart-stopping second Hilda worried that Bianca didn't feel the way she did, even though she had been so certain. But then Bianca kissed her, and Hilda stopped worrying and kissed her back warmly.

Half an hour later a lonely Emolga came out of the bushes and chattered at them. He was looking for a battle and perhaps a trainer too. But the two girls were so occupied with soft words and kisses that he had to go back into the tall grass alone.
