[June 17] [Original] Men's Fears
Title: Men's Fears
Day/Theme: June 17, 2011 "Fear is a wolf who dreads himself."
Series: Original
Character/Pairing: John, Ben, Ted, Tibault (Tib), Irnald, & Thao
Rating: PG
Author's comment: Just goofing around. I apologize that they may all run together here into just a mess of guys chatting. I'm just amusing myself.
Nothing like a late night meeting of six old acquaintances. Irnald entered the sitting room last with a candle in a brass holder in hand. "Eh, so, John, what fun will we be having tonight?"
"Just fun," John shrugged vaguely, "Talk and what-not. Whatever you fellows like."
"Convenient that our lady friend isn't here," Tibault mused.
"Tib doesn't like Ara?" Ted asked.
"She makes him feel emasculated," John volunteered cheekily, unfazed by the way that his current closest ally roped his arm around his neck and mercilessly mussed his hair. "It's his only real fear!"
"You're afraid of all kinds of things, aren't you, Ben?" Thao leaned over his colleague menacingly.
"Please don't talk about those things," Ben frowned, shrinking away from Thao as far as he could in one move without actually rising to his feet.
"No, no, fear is interesting," John pulled loose from Tibault's grasp. "Let's talk about fears."
"It's easy to talk about fear when you're not afraid of anything," Ben scowled. While it wouldn't be entirely fair for John to take his side all of the time, he still couldn't help but resent him when he teamed up with Thao. They were a very bad pair: deadly, deceptive, obnoxious.
"Aww, John, you've got to be afraid of something," Tibault pushed, continuing his trend of putting his hands all over the nicely dressed, smaller man.
Irnald uncorked a wine bottle and poured himself a glass. "I think not," he tossed out his feelings on the matter.
"That's two votes 'no,'" John laughed, "Either way, I seem to have a reputation. But you can't expect me to spill my secrets if you won't give up yours. What are you afraid of, Tib?"
"Scorpions. Mmm...that's all I can think of."
"He won't say Ara because that embarrasses him," John supplied again on his behalf.
Tibault rolled his eyes, then tried to shrug it off, stretching and cracking his knuckles. "Someone else, speak. I'm not the only one who needs to be taken down a few pegs here."
"That's cute," Thao smirked. He seemed perpetually sly. "I'll tell you what worries me- that one day Ben will grow up to be stronger and smarter than me."
"The day that happens, he'll shank your rotten ass," Ted snickered.
"Won't happen though."
Ben shivered with the withheld rage of one long suffering. John did not comment. Though Ben was unlikely to ever match Thao for size or horror, he wasn't stupid. John hoped he would be there that fine day when Ben unleashed his fury upon his unwanted master.
"I'm afraid of prison," Ted volunteered, "Getting stuck in a chimney while I'm working, getting injured in an industrial accident or something...Eh, some dangerous stuff, I guess."
"My musical talent going unrecognized," Irnald spoke up softly, hoping his contribution would pass by unnoticed in the confusion of barely light bodies and voices.
"Aren't you already famous enough?" Thao groaned.
"Oh, I'm also scared of Irnald's ego," Ted added, grinning.
John leaned close to Ben and cupped his hand around his ear, "Tell me, just me, what you're most afraid of in the entire world."
Ben shielded his mouth with his hand, returned the careful angle, and whispered back his answer.
