[June 14] [Fullmetal Alchemist] Appreciation
Title: Appreciation
Day/Theme: June 14, 2011 "You wanted me indomitable."
Series: Fullmetal Alchemist
Character/Pairing: Alex Louis Armstrong & Solf J. Kimblee
Rating: PG
Author's comment: My mom suggested I write about Armstong.
The state wanted men of iron, but some of the ones they got were stuffed with straw. They were mistaken if they thought every State Alchemist could be counted on to operate in roughly the same way (And maybe they already knew that, maybe they were already happy and ready and prepared to see some men who were wrong enough not to die, but simply to break).
There weren't many things for Alex to pack into his duffel bag, but still he went about the task very slowly and tried not to think of the censure he would surely receive from Olivier upon returning home.
It was probably because he hadn't made a special show of asking people to stay out that Kimblee came in and watched him. Alex could feel his cheeks burning at the gaze he felt Kimblee laying onto his silently back. Alex finished, but wouldn't turn and look at his colleague. What he imagined was painful enough. He wouldn't invite those eyes to meet his, or that tongue to stab him through with glibly sharpened words.
But Kimblee was stubborn and ignored all his cues. Eventually Alex rose and looked down into those judging golden eyes. "I'll be gone tomorrow," he said, "Take care of yourself, Kimblee."
"Thank you."
Yet he didn't leave. "...What is it that you want from me?"
"Nothing, Alex, nothing. I simply came to appreciate what an alternative to my way of handling the war might be."
