Author's comment: Liar-verse. The basic scenario of Liar-verse...In Los Angeles several years post AJ, Solf J. Kimblee, private eye, meets up with Machi Tobaye, trying to keep his musical career low key, and hooks him back into a life of crime? Okay, it is basically just me goofing around forever. I want to do a '4 times Kimblee lied to Machi and one time he didn't' set.

Saturday Night. 9:03 P.M.

"Machi, I'm going to be late tonight. I can't meet you at the venue before the show. Actually, I might have to miss the show. I ran into a couple of old friends and we started talking and, well, I don't think I'll be able to get away anytime soon."

"Uh-huh," Machi answered in his best sarcastic tone. He'd at least grant Kimblee the kindness of allowing him to finish his ridiculous excuse before telling him precisely where he imagined his colleague was at that moment.

"I'll be seeing you later tonight then. ...Or tomorrow morning."

"Kimblee, because you are making this story, I assume you are not needing help with make bail?" the young pianist sighed.

"Bail? Why on earth would you think such a thing?" Kimblee chimed back at him. His voice sounded incredibly innocent, but that was no indicator of anything. He was accustomed to sweet-talking any number of people in a given day. If Machi accompanied him out on his detective business, it was best not to bother to try and count the number of coy untruths he heard out of Kimblee's agile lips- it gave him a headache.

"Tell me which friends you are seeing then? Officer Mustang? Officer Hawkeye?" This whole game had suddenly become a good deal less lopsided when Machi had had the good fortune of meeting several of the more competent members of the LAPD.

"Ah, how perceptive of you- how did you," Kimblee was cut off by cranky voice of a familiar policeman saying something incomprehensible in the background. Machi rolled his eyes at the phone while he waited.

"Sorry. I'm very sorry," Kimblee returned, "We'll have to talk about this later. I hope you have a good show. Take care. Good-bye."

And click, he hung up the phone. "He did not even hold out hope I say, 'Goodnight, I love you,'" Machi remarked, unimpressed. He left the apartment and went to catch the bus.
