Author's comment: You'd think with all this month's self-indulgence that I didn't have any shame left, but I'm actually still embarrassed each time I post one of these.

"You've never gone to the beach," Izaya confirmed his colleague's unusual and awkwardly phrased admission upon being met at the nearby train station dressed in his standard white suit and fedora without a sign of summer vacation appropriate clothes or equipment on his person.

"That's correct," Kimblee answered without a hint of hyperbole.

"What part of America did you say you were from again?" the information broker pried curiously.

"I never said," the alchemist replied, which was the truth, keeping him from having to lie and bring up his less orthodox Amestrian origins.

"Okay, Mr. One Look For Every Season," Izaya sighed, grabbing Kimblee's arm and leading him off the train platform and into the city, "I'm going to help you out with your lack of seasonal activity awareness one last time, just because it's summer, but after today, you're going to have to puzzle out the proper way to dress and act and enjoy the seasons on your own, all right?"

"What you mean is you're going to let me ponder Japanese culture on my own for your amusement," Kimblee translated.

"Could be," Izaya didn't deny the possibility. "Honestly, I can't get over how clueless you can be about so many little things when you know so much about bombs and warfare and chemistry... You're not going to tell me you were raised to be some kind of super-assassin, are you, Kim-tan?"

"I had a perfectly normal upbringing," he sniffed. Izaya snickered. This strange foreigner really was bothered by the oddest things.

"Okay, first of all," Izaya explained as they drifted into the first serviceable-looking shop they came across, "You were invited to the beach to swim, Kim-tan. Maybe you don't swim, having never been to the beach, but I don't know. Even if you don't, I'm going to save you from some social humiliation. No one is expecting you to show up at the oceanside in the middle of July dressed like you're headed to a business meeting. Sure, most of the people who're going to be here are our business associates, but the point of this is to relax."

"I can understand that part. ...But it's not un-relaxing to me to be dressed this way. I'm not uncomfortable. I'm not hot. ...And you're not dressed much differently from usual either."

"You need my help, so you shouldn't be so quick to nitpick, Kim-tan," Izaya tsked, shaking his head, "I'm not wearing my coat, am I? My swim trunks are in my bag. I'll change later."

"So, what else am I going to have to keep in mind?" Kimblee finally shrugged out of Izaya's dragging grasp and idly examined a pair of sandals.

"...The way you are, Kim-tan, by the time this afternoon is over, you're going to owe me enough favors to last the rest of the season."

"Exactly the way you like it."

"I'm not saying you're wrong."
