Love, like fire, can burn away your heart. People talk about "feeding the flames," don't they? Life is passion, life is a spark. And if life is a fire, it must be red, the deepest crimson. That's what I believed, looking into Kyoko's eyes.

Kyosuke's passion was in his hands, poured into his violin, and released for all to hear. I loved Kyosuke and his music. I wanted to share him with the world. But Kyoko's pain-forged passion was different. She wasn't like Kyosuke. She enlisted that inner power to fight for one beloved (selfish) cause. First it had been her father, then herself, and, finally, as I teetered on the brink of madness, her allegiance shifted again (maybe it had shifted sooner, but I couldn't see it until too late) to me.

Red hair, red eyes, rising out of the ashes of a past consumed in flame. Kyoko was like a vengeful goddess, overflowing with potent judgment, choosing mercy or destruction for everyone she met. For good or bad, she seemed to choose easily.

And among those she could've condemned, she chose instead to love me. Our fighting only fueled the conflagration. I looked into those ruby eyes and saw for the first time a passion as hot as my own. I saw a future better than the one I used to dream about, I saw the signs of love that struck me to my core. Maybe by then I could've admitted that I was wrong. Only, by the time I realized it, it was too late.
