[April 22] [Tales of Legendia] When the Clockwork Winds Down

Title: When the Clockwork Winds Down
Day/Theme: April 22, 2011 "a nice blend of scientific and sentimental"
Series: Tales of Legendia
Character/Pairing: Shirley & Thyra, Fenimore
Rating: PG

Shirley brushed some dust and dried leaves from the crumpled over automaton beside Fenimore's grave. "Why do you think it stopped moving then, so soon after Fenimore died?"

"Walter wasn't using the Whisper Crystal anymore, was he? It probably just ran out of power," Thyra shrugged. She hadn't seen the way the automaton tagged after her sister, but some of the other Ferines had told her about it, counting it as one of few pleasant memories of Fenimore they could share from their time together on the Legacy.

"Well, this one never really seemed to follow Walter's commands. From the first time it met Fenimore, it followed her around everywhere. It didn't take part in any of the fighting."
Thyra's frown intensified. "So it followed her here too."

"It even carried flowers," Shirley answered, "But Fenimore wasn't coming back. She wasn't made of clockwork. No one could wind her back up again."

"I guess, even if it can feel for a person, that's something a machine can't understand," Thyra concluded solemnly. She pulled out her handkerchief and knelt down beside Shirley, giving the automaton a more thorough cleaning. It had probably come to just as permanent an end.
