[April 14] [Original] Write so as to Please the Queen

Title: Write so as to Please the Queen
Day/Theme: April 14, 2011 "wrong with a capital 'r'"
Series: Original
Character/Pairing: Elisa Durango, General M, Jin Rembrandt
Rating: PG

"This! This is complete nonsense!" Elisa flung the report onto the table where it slid across several other thick military reports. General M's usually solid expression twitched into a frown. Jin Rembrandt did a better job of retaining his pre-existing look- it was, incongruously enough, considering the situation, a smile.

"In what way, Your Highness?" General M ventured cautiously. He hated it when the meetings proceeded this way. He had written that report- had insisted on it. He was tired of Rembrandt scribbling something up overnight and receiving no end of praise for it from the queen. There was nothing that amazing about the man. He was an impoverished hack strategist who had connived his way onto M's staff with a good idea about caltrops (and it was a very, very good idea indeed, although M hated to admit it, even in the privacy of his own mind).

"In every way that comes to mind," Elisa replied. She seemed nearly as much flabbergasted as she was annoyed. "I don't like what you have to tell me in it, your handwriting is terrible, and the general composition, from a writing perspective, leaves a lot to be desired."

What was the proper response to all of that? "I see, Your Highness," M choked.

Jin Rembrandt, scoundrel that he was, did not move. He continued to smile.

"As a matter of fact, I want it redone," the queen decided. "Not you, M. Jin," she picked the report back up and pressed it into his hands, "Do you think you can rewrite this for before my appointed meeting with the assembly of generals this evening?"

"Certainly, Your Highness." He just kept on smiling.
