[Feb 4] [Yu-Gi-Oh! 5Ds] The Ghost of You
Title: The Ghost of You
Day/Theme: February 4 - I am seeing ghosts in everything I do
Series: Yu-Gi-Oh 5Ds
Characters/Pairings: Bolger (implied Pearson/Bolger)
Rating: PG
A/N: Oh, hi, self. Stop using stupid My Chemical Romance songs for titling things. -_-;
---------------------
The first few weeks after the fire aren't that bad. Trying to pick up and rebuild his life once again keeps Bolger busy enough that he doesn't notice or think all that hard about what has lead him to this point. But eventually things calm down, most of the older kids bolting like he would have at their age. Some of them taking the younger ones with them and leaving him entirely on his own again.
Truthfully he should go too. He has money and he has a way into the City guaranteed to him, all he has to do is make the call. All the same he stays and kicks around the few buildings that are still standing. He made the deal he did for a reason after all, the money was to finish the engine. The all-important proof that people from Satellite were worth something.
(except the engine was destroyed along with everything else in that fire and you've already sold the plans anyway)
That nagging voice in the back of his skull sounds like Pearson some days. Never quite harsh or accusing like he thinks it should be, just quietly matter of fact and almost amused like Pearson would be. Maybe the slightest edge of disappointment tingeing the words (just like That Day, right before the duel started Pearson hadn't seemed angry just... saddened by the whole thing) and Bolger shakes his head to chase away those thoughts. They're distracting and not the least bit helpful.
And they ambush him when he least expects it. While picking bits and pieces of equipment out of the rubble he thinks about working on bikes. While sitting on the steps, having a quiet smoke, he thinks about sitting shoulder to shoulder with Pearson and passing a cigarette back and forth. And while trying to sleep....
While trying to sleep his mind is nothing but a tangle of half-remembered sensations. From something as quiet and simple as a chin resting on his shoulder to the heated memory of callused fingertips skimming over skin.
Three sleepless nights later he's making the call. Edgy and nervous and desperate to leave Satellite behind him. And hoping against hope that the memories won't follow him.
