[Jan. 30] [Suikoden III] Two, When Together

Title: Two, When Together
Day/Theme: Jan. 30, 2011 "Two less grumpy people in the world"
Series: Suikoden III
Character/Pairing: Thomas
Rating: G

It was, Thomas realized, just one of those lessons of life. You can't please all the people all the time. Being master of a castle was not easy. He couldn't even please all of the people living under his roof at times. However, this afternoon, as Thomas headed inside to accept Sebastian's offer of a cup of tea, he could rest assured that he had managed to do a pretty good job.

Actually, it had been a rather complicated situation. As Thomas tried to put it down in his journal, he found it more difficult to put into a short amount of words than he expected. All he wanted was to record the goings-on around Budehuc for posterity (and possibly personal reference further down the line), not write a small-press circulating pamphlet on the events that had been tied up today.

Basically, it boiled down to love, didn't it? Emily and Juan had fought, not because the matter was tedious or meaningless to them, but because, deep down, it meant so much. He hadn't seen it at first, but once their feelings became clear to him (still, it was a little surprising to think about Juan being in love after all his past gruff experiences with the dozy martial artist), Thomas had been able to do what he did best- to act as a go-between. It might not be possible to ever truly, permanently, reconcile Zexen and the Grasslands, but he had mended fences between Emily and Juan.

People could be changed by the company of others. Many were changed by those they loved. Thomas realized belatedly that he was dripping ink onto the table. He mopped it up with a piece of blotting paper and hoped that he hadn't permanently stained the piece of antique furniture.

As he went back to work, the idea nagged at his consciousness. If love could change Juan and Emily (and he wished love could somehow alter nations, impossible as that might sound)...could love, perhaps, change him too?
