[Jan. 28] [Suikoden II] Recruitment Redux!
Title: Recruitment Redux!
Day/Theme: Jan. 28, 2011 "You gotta tip on the tightrope"
Series: Suikoden II
Character/Pairing: Eilie, Rina, Bolgan
Rating: G
"Hey, Rina," Eilie slipped into the tent and plopped down onto a plush, red cushion beside her sister, "We're back." Bolgan followed her, wiping sweat from his brow. The sun was hot in the middle of the Zexen summer, even with a breeze blowing in from the ocean.
"Oh?" the fortune teller looked up from her cards, "And how did your investigation go?"
"We ate a great treat," Bolgan spoked up, "It was pink and even though they'd give you a bit piece on a stick like a balloon, it was as light as air! They called it cotton candy!"
"That sounds lovely," Rina answered calmly, although Eilie's slight annoyance at Bolgan tossing in his two potch before she was able to report on what they'd seen did not escape her notice. "And about the other performers?"
"There were musicians on one corner. I saw some notices about a play too, but it sounded more like a high-class, expensive thing than the market-side sort of performance that would be our competition. I don't think we have to worry about getting a share of this city's eyes- or its money. There're plenty to go around and I didn't see any knife-throwing, fire-breathing, or fortune telling."
"Wonderful." There little troupe could head into the capital and take a stab at making their way for another week or so.
"...There's one more thing though. Rina, I saw an act- a really amazing act!"
"So there's some new trick you'd like to learn? Is it some kind of tumbling? Because I think you could manage that..."
"No," Eilie's earrings jangled as she shook her head, "Even if I could learn it, I don't think I'd be able to on my own. It's complicated. ...What I was wondering, actually, was what you'd think about asking someone else to join our troupe."
"I...wouldn't be immediately against it," Rina admitted.
"It's just two people- a father and daughter- and they have the most amazing act." Eilie's excitement showed clearly on her face, flushed from the heat and the pumping adrenaline from the show she had seen. "They walk a tightrope, Rina! The guy- he couldn't be much older than you and I- he and his tiny little daughter- both of them do it! And they're so confident! You have to come see it! We have to talk to them!"
"Again," Bolgan added.
"Again?" Rina recognized the color of Eilie's face. She raised an eyebrow knowingly.
"We already talked to them today," Bolgan explained, "The girl was too shy to talk, but her father's a nice person. He's young, like Eilie said."
"Oooh," Rina smiled, "I see, I see."
