[Jan. 24] [Fullmetal Alchemist] Hidden Talent?

Title: Hidden Talent?
Day/Theme: Jan. 24, 2011 "Poetry is the street talk of angels and devils"
Series: Fullmetal Alchemist
Character/Pairing: Roy/Maes, Kimblee
Rating: PG

"...'I know that your heart is promised to another,/But a whole heart can't be given/So easily.' Hmm," Kimblee put a hand to his chin in what Roy recognized as one of his characteristic "thinking" gestures. "I don't think this is very good," he said at last without an softening preamble.

"What?" Roy blustered. It wasn't like he had wanted Kimblee reading this sappy outpouring of his feelings in the first place- where did he get the nerve?! Thinking he could criticize or critique Roy's writing so coldly like that... Of course there was nothing objective about poetry, and among all types of poetry, none was more open to matters of the heart (and, thus, clouded interpretation) than love poetry.

"Now now, it's not as if you completely lack potential," Kimblee cut in just as Roy was about to go on to defend himself. "And, actually, I believe I can help you. We'll just make a couple of revisions! I'm sure Hughes will appreciate your hard work."

Roy opened his mouth again, about to protest Kimblee's knowledge of the target of his poem, but caught himself just in time (it might be a trap- he wasn't about to walk right into it). "You're...going to help me write better love poetry?" The idea was ridiculous. Maybe Kimblee knew something about poetry, but if Roy's time spent around him was any indication, he didn't know anything about love.

"Why, certainly. It's easy enough to craft the right mix of rhyme and sentimentalism to move even the hardest heart. And Hughes is a sap. With a little help, you'll easily have him in the palm of your hand."

Still Roy did not speak. He just couldn't believe this. ...Well, he'd let Kimblee write and see what he came up with, just to see...But there was no way he would give anything Kimblee crafted to Maes. ...At least this would make an interesting story?
