[Jan. 20] [Original] Theme Song

Title: Theme Song
Day/Theme: Jan. 20, 2011 "space chanson"
Series: original (Navigator)
Character/Pairing: May Radcliff, Marta Duay, Leona Maxwell
Rating: G

"Hey! I've got an idea!" May announced, practically jumping up and down in excitement.

Leona and Marta shared a look that conveyed their slight misgivings toward anything that would inspire this degree of melodramatic joy from May. It wasn't as if she wasn't generally viewed as the most over-caffineated, hyperactive, bouncing-off-the-walls member of the crew as it was. But they had to be skeptical. Logical. Even though both young women really, sincerely, liked their junior associate. "Well, shoot," Marta suggested, "Tell us what it is."

"A theme song," she declared. That was it. After dropping her piping-hot suggestion on her friends, May just stood there grinning, waiting for their undoubtedly thrilled responses.

"...For...what?" Leona asked, finally giving up as May's smile began to fade since she was still unable to determine what she believed would be so exponentially better if it possessed a theme song.
"For the ship, of course." To May it was the most obvious thing in the world. "Navigator should have its own theme song. I guess Serendipity could have one too, if it they wanted one. ...Or the UN Space Exploration Commission could come up with an overall theme song for all of us, but that just wouldn't be as personal. I don't think that'd be as cool either."

It didn't sound at all practical, but it was a funny idea. Marta laughed, trying to figure out how this concept would play out. "So, May, who would come up with the theme song?"

"It could be a contest! Anyone on the ship musical enough to come up with something submit a song!"

"It'd be like a battle of the bands?" Leona tried to wrap her mind around this. "The Eurovision contest?"

"Something like that," Marta replied, figuring that she had gotten a good enough hold of the concept.

"We could play the theme at takeoff and at official events and stuff like that," May carried on cheerfully. She was quite enamored of the idea by this point and was already planning on writing up her proposal to present to Captain Barrett before her next "ideas for the ship" meeting.

"Hey," Leona threw up her hands, "As long as we get a cooler theme than Serendipity, I'm sold."
