[Jan 18][Aishiteruze Baby] Getting Un-used to It
Title: Getting Un-used to It
Day / Theme: Jan 18 / I can’t unthink about you
Series: Aishiteruze Baby
Characters: Kippei, Kokoro
Rating: G
Word Count: 450
As a quick glance around didn’t reveal the person she was looking for, Kokoro walked past the curious stares of the last few kindergartners and approached one of the teachers.
“Excuse me for interrupting,” she said in her quiet voice. “Katakura-san didn’t happen to pass by, did he?”
The teacher seemed flustered by the stoic beauty in front of her. “I—uh, I thought I did,” she replied. “But I was distracted by Ken-chan tripping and when I looked back, Katakura-san was gone.”
Kippei was supposedly fooling around with the exasperated school counselor, when he suddenly ran out, yelling he had forgotten to do something important. He probably didn’t see her standing in the corridor when he zipped by, but she had to beg off a shopping expedition with Aki and Mai. Kokoro had been certain her boyfriend was on his way to the kindergarten and figured she’d probably find him moping somewhere between the school and home. She could look for him on the way home, then.
She thanked the teacher and turned to leave.
“Ah, I just came back from vacation and heard about it,” the teacher called out and walked after her. “I’m glad Yuzuyu-chan is finally reunited with her mother, but I do feel so bad for Katakura-san. He must feel horrible with his little cousin moving away.”
“Yes,” Kokoro agreed simply.
She found him in the playground, near where she first met Yuzuyu-chan, chasing after her hat. Thinking might prefer to be by himself for a bit, she sat at a bench and watched the kids giggle and chase each other around. Thus occupied, she didn’t notice when he stood from his despondent squat on one corner of the sandbox and walked over to her.
“Kokoro-chan,” he chided, petulant as he collapsed on the seat and then against her back. “You should have said something. What if didn’t see you till hours later?”
She would’ve waited.
Kippei sat up and scratched the back of his head sheepishly. “I’m sorry; you missed another all-girls’ outing. Aki’ll kick my ass tomorrow, and I probably deserve it.”
Kokoro shrugged. “They should be used to my high-maintenance boyfriend by now.”
He gave a half-hearted protest against that and tried to snuggle against her piteously. She hugged him back but elbowed his side when his hands started to wander.
“You couldn’t have been thinking of Yuzuyu-chan, just now,” she accused bluntly.
He had the grace to look abashed.
“Anyway, Miki-sensei says she’s glad Yuzuyu’s back with her mother but feels bad about you getting left behind.”
“My feelings exactly,” he said. Then, “I guess we can go home now. Unless Kokoro-chin wants to…”
She elbowed him again for good measure.
